There was a press release in our newspaper this morning (WA) listing the names of NMSF in our area. I thought the release date was the 12th?

A quick google of the news yesterday showed that some qualifier names had already been released to the press even while some high schools have yet to tell their qualifiers.

Found this year’s list for Florida: http://media.bradenton.com/smedia/2012/09/10/10/26/12Oqye.So.69.pdf

omg my baby is one of only 2 ppl of all the city high schools that made it wow

can you find MS and post it?

It’s probably not out there yet and might never be. But, mwpjlp, why not do it yourself?

i have been trying!!! for days now. can’t find anything and the gc is no help. i’m sure we’ll find out tomorrow. thanks!!

How would you do a search for your own state? Local papers? New to this. Thanks

You might not find it. Some newspapers include the state list with their news releases about local NMSFs in September, sometimes as a link. Wisconsin newspapers do this, but not until tomorrow. You can search for “SEMIFINALISTS IN THE 2013 NATIONAL MERIT® SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM” with quotes, since that is the name of the document, and add your state name separately. So far, Florida is the only one I came across, thought someone might like to see.

Celeste: you beat me! Just saw that & was going to post Florida :)

It’s really about a targeted Google search using some advanced search tips:
search for “national merit scholarship corporation” in the main google box using the quotes so it searches for the phrase, not the individual words (the press releases all use that wording since they’re coming from NMSC.) Then when you get results, use the left hand menu and click on the link that says “show search tools.” When new options pop up, you will see the default is any time. I clicked on “past week.” As of right now, that leaves 953 results, you can then add a geographic search term to narrow things down.

Looks like FL may be the only state with a complete list published, but there’s a lot of local stories naming kids (but none in TN!)

celesterobert’s link (thank you, cr) comes right to the top if you set the advanced search to “updated in the past week” and search for “national merit semifinalist 2013 filetype: pdf”

has anyone ever found a previous pdf from minnesota? In all my google searches I have never found one that contains the list of minnesotans who earn the award.

Here’s a document with some of last year’s scholarship winners from MN. Not a full list, but ought to be able to find it somewhere: http://stmedia.startribune.com/documents/12MeritCollegeJuly09MINNESOTA.pdf

DS still hasn’t been told he is a semifinalist by his school, but after knowing for a week I couldn’t wait anymore and told him on Sunday. I don’t know why it is being kept such a big secret, cut off numbers are all over the internet. Hopefully, they will tell him tomorrow, so we can get started on the paperwork!

Does anyone know if the names of the international NMSF qualifiers are published in any newspaper or in a booklet?
Thanks.

mnchucky: try googling “site:http://stmedia.startribune.com merit.pdf”

expatlondon: I never found such a list or even a press release last year. The only thing that I saw was a list of the kids who were at Dept of Defense schools. I am sort of interested in the geographical location of international NMSF qualifiers, so if you find anything please let me know. I did find on another international school website that there were around 90 international NMFs (I believe 2 years ago). On the NM website if I recall correctly they are lumped together with “other” which included DC and Boarding Schools (as far as number per year).

Last year the San Jose Mercury News had a PDF of all the 2012 Semifinalists in California (from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation)

The California score has at least dropped from 221. I have a 220 and I am a semi finalist.
