wait have financial aid awards been posted for everyone or just some?
mine still says inquiry access denied
If I want to appeal for aid, am I allowed to mention another school’s merit scholarship offer or is it only if another school provided me with financial aid?
^might be an obvious answer but just wanted to make sure…
Need blind university - will not match merit scholarship. However, if you can show financial aid from another need blind school, perhaps they might increase the scholarship part of the offer. Worth a try.
“Do you guys think I should let go of Northwestern and commit to another school or should I risk staying on the waitlist after May 1st?”
Don’t risk staying on the waitlist, definitely commit to another school with a deposit, and a write a note of continued interest as another poster suggsted.
“Also is there a possibility that people come off the waitlist before May 1st?”
It’s possible but not likely. Unless they get a lot of people saying no earlier, they have to give everyone till end of April to give their decision.
“NU provides need based aid for every eligible student, up to full ride”
“it is true from school to school, NU doesn’t just cover full ride for a true need”
This is substantive contradiction after posters gave opposing evidence regarding your meet full need statement.
So which is it, does NU (or any school offering ED) provide need based aid up to full ride or not?
“YMMV”
Yes, small but very meaningful abbreviation, because people’s financial situation varies from household to household, ED is not recommended unless you’re full pay.
@theloniusmonk I see where confusion is coming from, school to school doesn’t mean among NU schools, rather NU vs UMich vs any other.
So NU provides need based aid for every eligible student, up to full ride, irrespective whether one is in McCormik, Bienen or Weinberg.
Hopefully this clarifies.
Yes, but you have to list Northwestern as your first choice school by the NMSC published deadline. See the link below for more information from Northwestern. My son does receive National Merit Scholarship funds from Northwestern. It was a renewable scholarship of $2000 per year. Starting with Fall 2020, it is a renewable grant of $500 per year.
I am super confused between Northwestern and Princeton. Can someone please guide and suggest me about it? I have full-ride for both schools. So, fin aid ain’t a problem. Can someone please guide me?
Is April 1st, today, the deadline for all financial aid/merit aid announcements? If nothing changes in the portal today can we assume that what we see is what we get? Thank you.
@TheBlueJay@Busy_Momma no official mailing here either but yes, lots of emails. I am guessing that the mailings are printed and hand collated. People are working from home based on Illinoise state at home order through April 30. We are waiting on one last email because my son will make his decision. Hopeful that it come soon.
My daughter was admitted to Northwestern, along with a number of other amazing schools. She chose to go in a different direction. Her decision went up until just days before May 1st, and honestly it was an agonizing choice. I have to say in retrospect one of the main reasons Northwestern didn’t make the cut was they failed to make her admittance feel special to her. As a parent, watching my only child go through all the disappointments her senior year has become because of Covid-19, the one bright spot has been looking forward to college. Today, May 7th she finally received her welcome package from Northwestern. None of her other regular decision admittances failed so badly to make that small effort. I had to laugh when I got the mail today.
This is really rude. I get it that you are mad at him but don’t use people’s struggle as an insult. Even in poor countries, there are still people who can afford to pay for american schools and who live much better than you do. Also he must have gotten a full ride. I just can’t believe that a whole grown up such as you could use poverty to shame someone. Literally so disgusted.
