Official Northwestern RD Decision Thread Class of 2018

@pettyofficer I tried to call the other day but nobody answered… perhaps you will have better luck?

can some1 email UG office and ask for exact date?
EDIT:sorry NEVERMIND

@WelsCool I will email 'em tomorrow.

I just called… their response: “Sometime between late March and early April. We do not give out specific dates.” So not at all helpful. Hopefully it will just be this week…

Thanks @WWWard

You’re welcome. While I understand what they are likely going through in terms of finalizing decisions, etc., it would be nice if they could be more specific. Oh well… good things come to those who wait… hopefully :)

@WWWard, Before now, it was “late March”, and then you called and you got : “between late March and early April”.
Don’t anyone else call PLEASE. I don’t want them to get mad and move it to late April-early May. :)

The website still says: Regular decision applicants to Northwestern will receive their admission decision by the last week of March. Maybe she was just tired of answering the same question again and again…

I don’t know how accurate it is, but the website still says that people will know by the last week of March.

The pattern seems to indicate that it will be tomorrow or Friday, and that is consistent with what the website says. Hang in there guys, we’re almost there!

I hope it’s this afternoon. :)

haha wishful thinking ^^ :)

Here’s the thing with everybody on here applying to 17 schools (or close to). It’s a well known fact that most top teir schools have received a huge increase in applicants this year - which is predominantly due to the large number of school each individual applicant in applying to. Because all of these schools are so hard to get into, it appears to make sense that your chances would increase with the more school you apply, but in reality statistics support the opposite being true. When you apply to more schools, you then have less time to spend on each individual application as well as school work, ECs, etc. I applied to 10 schools, which was actually a lot compared to other students from my school, most of whom applied to 7 or so.
I can tell that most people on here who are applying to 17 schools have their list dominated by reach schools. The other thing is that if you are applying to so many reaches - do you really like all of those schools, or are you just applying because they have a good reputation. Between the 8 Ivys, they are all very different, so I don’t understand how people could apply to all of them or even 6. I considered applying to only 3/8 Ivys and I ended up only apply to 2. Though my list actually ended up being saftey-heavy (a bad decision on my part that I only realized after I had submitted). However, I have been accepted to 7 schools so far (including Cornell, UVA, and Michigan) and now I’m waiting on NU and 2 others.

@musicheartbreak4 wait how do you know you were accepted to Cornell? Did you apply ED? Then, how come you are waiting on RDs?

@Brouhahah I’m assuming @musicheartbreak4 probably got a likely letter.

There seem to be a # of applicants across CC with multiple admits already… which we also did not see as possible given all the ED/EA rules. I understand rolling admissions and some state universities announcing earlier than the late March/early April norm… but most applicants should still be waiting for the bulk of their decisions…

Many schools on the west coast have already put out their accepted lists.

A ton of schools east, west and in between have already sent notifications. Really it’s very few that are left-- but for many kids it’s all their reach/dream schools. Look at the thread that lists all the notification days.

For students from a relatively low income family, it is not difficult to understand why they apply to so may Ivies.

We did not get decision. We might get tomorrow. …
