[ /list][ b]Subjective:[ /b][ list]
[ *] Essays: By the time they were done reading them, they knew I was a tall blond Polish girl with a sense of humor, but intelligent. I wrote my “why NU” one from my heart & I think it really shows that I want to be there
[ *] Teacher Recs: I chose to get on from my APUSH teacher last year b/c he is amazing & I acceled in that class. I alos got one form one of my math teachers who runs NHS. I picked them both OVER my AP Gov teacher this year who is a NU ALUMI! He’s cool and has tons of connections, but I felt like I didn’t know him well enough to get a rec that really said who I was. (I can’t wait to tell him in school today about me going to his alma matter)
[ *] Counselor Rec: Was probably awesome as well, they switched our councilors last year but I kept seeing her cause I trust her. Plus, I’m a good kid and a lot of people at my school are ridiculously stupid, so I’m easy for her to deal with.
[ *] Hook (if any): I speak Polish and French fluently? (Made sure my essays explored this)
[ /list][ b]Location/Person:[ /b][ list]

[ /list][ b]Other Factors:[ /b] I am 1st chair everything with band (alto saxophone) and a good athelete. I talked a lot about being a vegetarian & volunteering with animals because it’s my passion. Also, I have a part time job in a certain doctors’ office so I am sure that was a HUGE plus. I got Illinois State Scholar Recognition right after Thanksgiving so I emailed admissions to let the, know the update & they added it to my file.
[ b]General Comments:[ /b] I really made sure admissions knew who I was by the time they were done with my app. I could have been another generic middle-class white girl, but I really made sure to explore all of my unique qualities so admissions would see that I am different. Don’t be a stereotype if you want a good chance here! Good luck to everyone else!

Ha I can’t even format this right! I will fix it later because I have to go to school now!

[] Strengths: good essays. good science research. good ACT score. good grades. all-around good.
[] Weaknesses: I didn’t save any poor African villages like many other applicants may have said they did. No exceptional hook other than past engineering research.
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected: because God is full of grace.[/ul]
[/li]

General Comments: I had some trouble getting everything sent in and had conflicts with my counselor. I thought the ED stuff was sent, but apparently, NU didn’t get any of it and sent me a notice saying I had until Nov 25 to get it. Had more conflicts, the ED stuff for some reason still didn’t get sent, and NU gave me a notice saying I had until Dec 7 to get it in. Well, all the forms were finally received, and I got in. Yes, God is full of grace.

But I’ll need even more grace. If the financial aid package isn’t enough, I’ll have to withdraw. My family was in a lot of debt problems just last year, so money is definitely an issue for us.

@Hoonyboy

You got in because you worked hard in high school and earned the acceptance. God had nothing to do with that.

he didn’t ask you, cclolz.

Word. But there is no one to credit but yourself for an acceptance at an elite four-year university. Admissions is (or at least should be) a meritocracy, not a spiritual spin-the-bottle.

It seems amazing that one can credit oneself alone for admissions to any college. Let’s start with the committee that let you in while other equally qualified applicants could have been chosen. So the unversities selectivity or mood on that day would need to be credited. How about your parents or family for giving you or caring about your education? How about your teachers throughout your life who made a positive impact? How about he fact that if not God, somehow you were fortunatle enough to be born here in the US with so many opportunities when you could have been born in a small village in Africa without clean water let alone a decent education and the hopes of a four year college before you? How about God or whomever you ultimately see as the person allowing for your birth. Or who sustained you over the last 18 years? Credit them or Him (in case of those who believe in God) Sorry I just don’t see where anyone can take all the credit for getting themselves where they are without realizing the many, many people and yes, possibly, the Grace of God (or luck) that got them this far–smack dab in the middle of an acceptance or rejection to an elite four year university.

HoonyBoy–congratulations!!!

I agree with the above post! One also has a right to believe in the involvment of God in their lives. I don’t believe he asked for anybody’s opinion.

Hey guys this is supposed to be for admission stats, don’t fight about opinions here. If we are smart enough to get into this college, we should be civil enough to accept that we all interpret things differently.

On another note, the thread is surprisingly small still, where are all the admits? Even the Facebook group only has like, 218 members (some of which are current students commenting around?).

Decision: Accepted

Objective:[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 770M 760CR 690W

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: SATs, summer stuff
[] Weaknesses: GPA, GPA, GPA… and I didnt really show a “passion”
[li] Why you think you were accepted/waitlisted/rejected:[/ul] I’m hoping its because I seemed like a good student and not because I’m a legacy.
[/li]

General Comments: I screwed up soph year. I didnt do anything, period. I got my act together and I think that showed on my app. everyone should have hope and if you work hard, anything can happen!

Let’s not misinterpret my comments. I was simply trying to assure the applicant that, judging by his credentials, he didn’t need the assistance of external divination to gain acceptance. He was being modest, and I was trying to brush off his inhibitions by saying that he deserved it. I did not intend to condescend or impose my religious beliefs.

But you can’t deny the hackneyed triteness of the repetition of “Because God is full of grace.” I hope NU admits kids with a little more rhetorical rationality.

please keep this thread strictly to admission stats
