<p>General Comments: I had some trouble getting everything sent in and had conflicts with my counselor. I thought the ED stuff was sent, but apparently, NU didn’t get any of it and sent me a notice saying I had until Nov 25 to get it. Had more conflicts, the ED stuff for some reason still didn’t get sent, and NU gave me a notice saying I had until Dec 7 to get it in. Well, all the forms were finally received, and I got in. Yes, God is full of grace.</p>

<p>But I’ll need even more grace. If the financial aid package isn’t enough, I’ll have to withdraw. My family was in a lot of debt problems just last year, so money is definitely an issue for us.</p>

<p>Word. But there is no one to credit but yourself for an acceptance at an elite four-year university. Admissions is (or at least should be) a meritocracy, not a spiritual spin-the-bottle.</p>

<p>It seems amazing that one can credit oneself alone for admissions to any college. Let’s start with the committee that let you in while other equally qualified applicants could have been chosen. So the unversities selectivity or mood on that day would need to be credited. How about your parents or family for giving you or caring about your education? How about your teachers throughout your life who made a positive impact? How about he fact that if not God, somehow you were fortunatle enough to be born here in the US with so many opportunities when you could have been born in a small village in Africa without clean water let alone a decent education and the hopes of a four year college before you? How about God or whomever you ultimately see as the person allowing for your birth. Or who sustained you over the last 18 years? Credit them or Him (in case of those who believe in God) Sorry I just don’t see where anyone can take all the credit for getting themselves where they are without realizing the many, many people and yes, possibly, the Grace of God (or luck) that got them this far–smack dab in the middle of an acceptance or rejection to an elite four year university. </p>

<p>Let’s not misinterpret my comments. I was simply trying to assure the applicant that, judging by his credentials, he didn’t need the assistance of external divination to gain acceptance. He was being modest, and I was trying to brush off his inhibitions by saying that he deserved it. I did not intend to condescend or impose my religious beliefs. </p>

<p>But you can’t deny the hackneyed triteness of the repetition of “Because God is full of grace.” I hope NU admits kids with a little more rhetorical rationality.</p>
