congrats @ScienceGal1023 that’s so awesome…Notre Dame is a very special place!!!
@ScienceGal1023 what does that mean visitation weekend? Is this for all applicants? Or did you get in? This feed is for Regular Decision applicants, anyone else get this letter? I’m on the east coast…everything gets here so much slower!!!
Not all students get Likely Letters, I believe. In fact, most students that get accepted don’t get these letters. I think she is talking about the Accepted Student’s weekends in the spring (there are four I think).
@collegemomjam thanks so much! Have a great day!
Very few students are invited to Spring Vis. Here’s some information. Congratulations @ScienceGal1023!
As part of the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the Spring Visit Weekend program broadens cultural and socioeconomic diversity at the University of Notre Dame. Many of the prospective students that are invited will be among the first in their family to graduate from college, and we want to ensure that they see all that Notre Dame has to offer. Our hope is that the Spring Visit program will help students make an informed decision about where they will spend their collegiate years. This is your chance to discover what Notre Dame means to you!
@suzy100 about how many students get invited?
do they send these out in batches since there are multiple weekends or all at one?
@collegemomjam thank you! Campus is beyond beautiful! I was there for the ND Leadership Seminars this past summer and absolutely loved it!
@Seacoast I applied regular decision. It seems as though they very quickly got down to business with reading applications! The email I received states: “We have reviewed your application for admission and are convinced that you are likely to be admitted to Notre Dame, and that you have much to contribute to the academic, social, and spiritual life on our campus.”
Good luck with your own admissions!
Thank you, @suzy100 ! :x
@ScienceGal1023 I’ve heard that ‘likely’ letters are typically given to applicants who are also being considered for their sports contribution potential. Were you applying to ND with a sports scholarship?
Also, any chance you could post your sat and gpa?
So Yale or ND?
@reformedman No, I am not a recruit for ND Athletics. Too bad cheerleading does not have exhibit a recruiting pool haha.
Admissions is a holistic process, so you should not fall into the mindset that test scores and GPA are make or break. It’s great to have high scores and grades, but the applicant is compared to his/her circumstances and background- opportunities available to them.
My ACT score was 33, Cumulative GPA 104.5000/100.0000. My school calculates based on a 100 scale.
I’m surprised that ND sent the letter just two weeks after I had submitted the app.
@Seacoast YIKES tough choice. Lol. Just need to wait for the end of March to see what Yale says.
Hello everyone! I’m another Notre Dame regular decision applicant here, eagerly hoping that I might be able to go to school with one of you guys next year
In regards to the students weekend mentioned in @ScienceGal1023 's post (congrats on being invited by the way!), if supposedly ND focuses on 1st gen students with this specific Welcome Weekend, what do they consider 1st gen exactly? I will be the first in my family to graduate from a 4 year university, but both of my parents went to trade school/junior college, and never to a 4 year program. Now, in some schools that I’ve applied to, this counts as 1st generation, but in others, it doesn’t. I was just wondering what Notre Dame’s take on this situation was, as I can’t find it on their website.
Thanks so much for the responses in advance!
*some of you guys- sorry typo… hopefully more than one person from this thread gets in!
@jessssssie02 thank you so much! I am super excited! I don’t think the Spring Visitation Weekend is limited to first generation only. The program’s page on the ND website just says that first gen students are many of the students who are invited for the program.
I’m not sure what they consider first gen. Perhaps email to ask?
Good luck!
March is so so far away :(( anyone else concerned about waiting to make a college decision for next fall since we must wait until March? Especially if your back up is a state university with a large populous? SO many people I know already have housing sorted, know who they are rooming with, etc… this thread has not been super active so I’d love to hear other peoples thoughts.
Okay I emailed my admissions counselor on what constitutes First Generation- they must be super busy this time of year so I’m not expecting a speedy response lol
@nduclaunc I applied to Northwestern RD and I won’t get an answer back until APRIL… it gives me anxiety just thinking about it ughhh especially with all my friends already knowing exactly where they’re going…
@jessssssie02 I’m nearly positive you are officially first gen because neither of your parents have a four year degree. I’m pretty sure that’s the rule. So that’s great news for you…it kind of counts as a hook!! I was also first gen, but back in my day it wasn’t a hook. But I think it should be. Congrats to you and your family, I’m sure they are very proud of you.
@collegemomjam Thank you very much! Honestly, I have gained a lot more respect for first generation families than I had before- you never truly appreciate how hard it is to apply to/understand college when your parents are unable to help you through most of the process. Of course, I’m lucky enough to have a very nice counselor and my parents are a huge source of encouragement so that certainly helps as well.
Did anyone in this thread take/send any SAT II subject tests? I just took two this past Saturday but only decided to send them to MIT (which I probably won’t get into but it’s worth a shot ¯_(ツ)_/¯) If they come back good, does anyone think they would be worth submitting to ND? I took the Math Level 2 and the Physics tests
