Official October ACT Math Thread

It was like, x +y = 21 and x - y = 15, what is xy. You get x = 18, y = 3, so (18)(3) = 54

hmm i dont remember that one

Ya Vince your right on that one, took a bit of thinking cause I was too lazy to do a formula, ironic i know lol

Does anyone remember what questions 53 and 54 were? haha hopefully somebody has a better memory than me,…

im pretty sure it was (4^2-1.75^2)pi

Checkmate- if the coordinates were (2, -3) then the answer would be (-2, -3) because it’s 90 degrees counterclockwise (so we turn to the left, rather than the right), right? It’s the same as relfecting the coordinates across the y axis. So that’s in Quadrant II, where the x is negative but the y remains positive. so it would be (-2, -3).

@med

Why do u have that 4 in there?

4 was the radius of the big circle

It wasn’t that Med. In order to determine the area of the small circle, we have the following info:

the radius of the big circle is 4.
The distance between the inner circle and the larger circle is 1.75. Therefore, to get teh radius of the inner circle, we have to subtract.

(4-1.75) = r of small circle. Now, to find the area, we use teh equation r^2pi

therefore, getting
(4-1.75)^2 * pi

dang you are right…such a dumb mistake by my part

I’m pretty sure the answer to the rhombus one was 25. If you make it into four triangles, you can do pythagorean theorem. One diagonal was 8 and the other was 6. And the diagonals of a rhombus bisect each other. Therefore you have 4 triangles with sides of either 3 or 4 and due to pythagorean theorem the hypotenuse would equal 5. Lengthwidth=area and 55=25.

No

You have 4 triangles with sides length 3 and 4

Use the formula for triangles

1/2bh

so .5(3)(4) = 6

Since u have 4 triangles
6 * 4 = 24

I agree with Maj on this one. It’s 24.

formula for rhombus is (diagonal1*diagonal2)/2

^ he’s right, it (d1 +d2)/2…that question took me way longer to do than it should have. Lol, the problems that took me the longest time to do were the rhombus, the tent, and the cats.

what was the cat problem asking and what was the answer?

how many people have more than one cat, the answer was 114

I don’t remember what I put as a number but I do remember that I just adding the two Yes columns, is that right?

^ yes, that’s what you were supposed to do…I just wasn’t smart enough to figure that out until about three or four minutes had passed

lol yeahh when i put right i put it for myself to tell me i got it correct because ill tend to forget which problem the answe was for
