- Teacher Recommendations: Al east one really good one.
- Counselor Recommendation: I don't know.
- Hook (if any): Not really, although I stressed my worldliness and extreme compassion for others throughout my application.
- Interview: Yes, a good interview. Was asked technical questions and answered them with ease.

Location/Person:
State or Country: CA
School Type: Public, a top high school
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Male
Financial Aid: Yes
Legacy Yes/No: No
Recruited: No

Academic Distinctions:
AP Scholar with Distinction
Nominated and Attended Global Leadership Summit
UT All-Academic for Var Water Polo
NHS/CSF

Extracurricular Activities:
Wide variety of service work through multiple internships with charities (JDRF, Sierra Club, RNC and DNC, CF Foundation) and Scouts (I don't count hours, that's wrong). Stressed work with inner-city/underprivleged kids, and my belief that everyone should be a chance at being successful (some sort of equality of opportunity; no, not affirmative action). Varsity water polo, UCSD research internship. Corporate work experience as a web designer at prestigious multimedia firm (and have worked w/ Fortune 500 websites). Now web designer for a company looking for me to help it grow (through design and business development).

Outlook: Not surprised that I was deferred, although at times, I wish it was just a rejection. Deferred pretty much is a euphemism for rejection, although there could be a shot that I'd get in. Who knows (although I'll probably go elsewhere)? I'm now looking at Swarthmore, Virginia, Stern, and Stanford. Swarthmore fits my personality better anyways, so being deferred could be a blessing in disguise...

I'm just disappointed because going to Wharton and studying in Philadelphia was my childhood dream (especially so I can see the Eagles play week in and week out), and it's not fun having your dreams shattered, especially when you believe that hard work brings success. But oh well, I'm not surprised. I'm just disappointed I came that close.

Like my scores aren't great for Wharton, but I'm a little peeved knowing I could have very easily gotten into Penn CAS (sorry to those who have better stats and apps than me, but I feel confident that I would've gotten into CAS considering my whole application). Oh well...

Congrats to everyone who got in! =]

umm 47 CCers without legacy, 7 with (not including acceptances/rejections)... its everyone included but that doens't seem like a lot to me!

I must say that the results for Penn ED are much more satisfying than those on the Dartmouth board, although by looking at Amadeuic's stats, I'm absolutely surprised he/she didn't get in. Guess there's always room for anomaly. It does seem the SAT scores for accepts are lower than one would expect.

How does being "white from northeast" leave you disadvantaged.

its mainly my location in the northeast that i wont reveal but it doesn't really matter
just something that came to my mind

The scores for acceptances are well within range. Also, note the small sample size. I'm sure there are plenty with high 2250+ that were accepted. But, part of the issue is how scores are reported. SAT scores are not presented as wholes, but are divided into the three sections of the test (CR,M,W) when the data from schools are presented.

An applicant can be below the 75th percentile for W or CR, but if they're applying for SEAS and their above the 75th percentile for Math, why not let them in? Especially when their scores can be compensated by letting in someone who is strong in English, although their math skills may be lacking a bit. Just because you have a higher total SAT score doesn't really matter. It really makes one realize how important the other factors (EC, recommendations, essays) are in determining an acceptance.

General Comments/Congratulations/etc: Congratulations to everyone who got in!!! I'll see you all next year!!! I am very relieved. And for those who got deferred, as long as there's hope, just work for it; believe in yourself. For those who got rejected, don't give up; not getting into Penn does not mean that you are not qualified for the school and certainly for other schools. You might even end up in a school you like even better. Please don't dwell on this. It's not healthy...

I guess passing 8 APS before senior year is kinda unique... weren't even all 5s though. I'm pretty sure it was all my econ teacher; my application portal never listed my second teacher rec, and I theorize they read his letter and stopped there.

Man did I luck out... I did NOT do my application right (started/finished 3 hours before it was due on Sunday). Sincere condolences for those rejected--I know that angsty feeling. To my fellow classmates: see you in the fall.
