I was in Beijing in March; it really is something, the level of internet censorship in China. To use google, we would have to reroute to google.hk! @chrezie is it a common practice for people in China to have VPNs?

Best of luck to everyone! I’m dying with anxiety right now…

^^ not too common practice i guess, but definitely common practice for the super Westernized group that have trouble surviving without facebook and Youtube :P

Were you in Beijing for the MUN conference? I had a load of friends who went there~ heard that there were a lot of Indian MUNers~

Yeah I was! Were you there?

And haha I’m pretty sure the people I met there were “the super Westernized group who have trouble surviving without facebook” They were constantly on it! Even during session. I would go up to them and say “Isn’t facebook blocked?” and they’d just laugh at me :P

Do you know which committees your friends were in?

^ my school was there as well

Cool! were you? and any idea which committees?

Shatin College, but I have no clue which committee they were in - I’m actually quite sick of Beijing, considering I go there every freakin’ summer LOL.

A load of people went from our school… they were in pretty much every committee… some of them ADing? I don’t quite remember which country they represented… my guess is Malaysia… I recall my roommate back then mentioning Malaysia quite a lot…

Oh right, i guess if its malaysia, it would be Garden International School - @chrezie, do you speak Shanghainese, mandarin, or both?

^garden international?!? I have no idea what school that is O.O… I’m from Shanghai High School International Division… I speak mandarin, can understand Shanghainese… but can’t speak it :3 I can speak Ningbo Dialect though~ it you know where that’s from

guys!?!?!
I wrote “CAS” in my essay when I was talking about the Penn college of arts and sciences. Is that abbreviation ok?

@chrezie - Ask them if any of them were from OAS!

Haha before my trip to beijing i made a conscious effort to try to learn mandarin…but the only words i picked up were ni hao and kshi shu jian (bathroom?) have you guys ever been to india?

@classycolleges - I don’t think that should be an issue. In any case, they are definitely not going to reject you because you called it CAS instead of College of Arts and Sciences, so relax :)

^^ I really don’t think colleges would penalize anyone for abbreviations… I would totally look down on the admission officers if they dislike an applicant for something as insignificant as that… I think you’ll be fine

^ LOL~ I’ll definitely go ask and tell you if there was anyone in OAS
I’ve always wanted to go to India!! It’s my #1 dream travel destination… sad I’ve never got the chance to go yet~ Where do you live in India, up in the north or down south?

@manutd

A few of my good friends are from India, but I’ve never been there.

@Chrezie

Yup, Ningbo is very familiar. I envy how you have access to Nanjing Road everyday - that place is pretty epic.

Wharton ed :)

I know people in OAS manutd1234!

@chrezie - yeah do that! I’m from the north, but I live in the south. You should come! It’s a great place to visit - lots to see. But it gets reeeeaaaalllllyyyy hot in most of the major tourist areas, so bring your sunglasses and cap along!

@geekboy - Really? That’s awesome! Where are you from?

@deathblade, lol… I never quite figured out what’s so great about Nanjing Rd… Isn’t it just shops? Ur from HK! Shouldn’t there be a lot more shops? Maybe I’ve just been living here for too long… but u said u “saturated” Nanjing Rd? What did u find there?

@manutd1234
Definitely~ I’ll follow ur advice and bring sun gear when I one day find time to visit :)
