i got rejected, no suprise my sat score was terrible! the only bad thing is that this does it for my east cost options :( but i got waitlisted to duke at least..

Yay! Accepted to Brown!! So HYP rejection, and Cornell isn't loading! Feels nice to be in the Ivy League...

[] Common or Princeton App?: Princeton
[] Other stats: IB Diploma Candidate, National Hispanic Merit Scholar, National Merit Commended, AP Scholar, Academic All-District (swimming), All-District Outstanding Hispanic Young Leader
[/ul]Subjective:[ul][] ECs listed on app: varsity swimming, Speech & Debate Team with several regional awards, student body Vice-President, National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta, co-President of church youth council (heavily involved at church), VP of National Spanish Honor Society
[] Job/Work Experience: worked three jobs in the summer between junior and senior year; worked ~17 hours a week all first semester
[] Essays (subject and responses): I wrote my 'summers' and 'favorite EC' activity as if they were essays, and I really loved both of them. One of my essays was about riding in a car with a future Princeton classmate and one of them was about my last name. They were pretty quirky, but I loved them.
[] Teacher Recs: I sent in 3 (2 required, one optional). One was probably really excellent, one pretty good, and one absolutely glowing.
[] Counselor Rec: She doesn't know me that well, but she probably tried very hard on it.
[] Interview (feel and general location): at my favorite coffee shop by the lake where I have spent so much time since I was about 4 years old on a perfect 85-degree sunny day. I didn't think it went that wonderfully at the time, but we got along pretty well. It was very casual and we talked a lot about partying...
[] Hook (if any): I'm half Mexican
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Texas
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): public, we send maybe three kids to Ivies + Stanford each year
[] Ethnicity: half-Hispanic, half-Caucasian (I specified this)
[] Income Bracket: $100,000
[] Gender: Female
[] Hooks: probably my writing skills...and my ethnicity
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: I don't have the "one true passion" everybody talks about, but I am passionate about each individual thing that I do and I really care about it. I also have tons of community service work (that's all really unique) and I wrote about that in an optional essay. My biggest weakness is probably my lack of "depth" in any one area, and my class rank/SATs could have been better.
[li] Why you think you were accepted or rejected: Part of me thinks that I am accepted because I love Princeton so much and it has been such a huge part of my wishes/hopes/dreams for so long that it was translated to paper.[/li][/ul]Other Factors: can't think of any
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:

I AM SO HAPPY RIGHT NOW! I have never been this happy in my entire life. I seriously have been smiling and running around my house for 30 minutes straight. I checked Harvard first and was rejected, but then I was accepted to Yale. My heart was pounding a million miles a minute and I was already really happy about Yale, so when it popped up on the screen I couldn't even believe it. I seriously kept making my mom read it over and over to make sure it was mine and it was real. I have never been this happy in my entire life. My life is PERFECT right now. Absolutely perfect.

Except for the fact that I was running to tell my mom and I crashed into this old toybox and severely cut my leg, which has been currently bleeding for about 20 minutes and might require stitches. WHATEVER, endorphins/adrenaline are seriously canceling out whatever pain I might have had otherwise!!

To everybody: I am so happy and proud and honored that I was able to 'meet' all of you over the past six months (some of us go way back, winkwink, btlesgirl!). I'm going to be lame and sappy for two seconds, but I really am so excited that I get to meet some of you next year and I am so sorry for those who were rejected. I hope that some other school can somehow make you feel the same way that I feel about Princeton right now. I love ALL of you. Thanks for inquiring as to my whereabouts.

EEEKS! I CAN'T EVEN SIT DOWN!

WAHOOOOOOOOOO
I made your day this morning, and now you made mine!!!!
MANY MANY MANY CONGRATS
I cannot wait to meet you!

Good for you, j07! Good for us!!!! Princeton over Yale, right?

but it's still oxford, right?

YAYYYYYYYYYYYY Congrats j07!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You definitely deserve it!!!!!!!!!!!!!

[] Strengths/Weaknesses: GPA, I don't stand out that much because I'm sure plenty of applicant from MA did lots of scientific research and had better grades than me. My gpa is better than most at my school, but it's pretty piddly compared to the heaps of 4.0 applicants.

[] Job/Work Experience: Worked in a hospital’s dietary dept.
[] Essays (subject and responses): My essays were very reflective of my personality. My guidance counselor called to ask about my application a few weeks ago and the regional director of Long Island confided in her that no other essay moved the committee more than mine did! She said a few officers had cried while deliberating over my app. I’m sure that means they appreciated my sincerity.
[] Teacher Recs: Didn’t read them… assuming they were good.
[] Counselor Rec: Ditto.
[] Interview (feel and general location): It was my most amusing interview. At one point, I felt so comfortable with her that I admitted that I’m gay (something not many people know and would never in the world guess about me). I think she may have written about how courageous it was for me to tell her that. My interview took place in Port Jefferson, the next town over.
[] Hook (if any):I didn’t check off that I’m Hispanic b/c I don’t agree with AA so it wasn’t my URM status. Not sure really.
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul][] State or Country: NY
[] School Type, Average Stats of School (if available): Suburban, Public, Last person to be admitted at Princeton in my school was in the 1980s
[] Ethnicity: Hispanic (I don’t actually look it… but both of my parents are Colombian. I was born there but came here when I was just 8 days old!)
[] Income Bracket: ~ 60k
[] Gender: Male
[] Strengths/Weaknesses: I can speak 6 languages / There are many, many languages I will never be able to speak in my life!!! Haha, but seriously, maybe my math and science are a little weaker. I tend to lean more towards the social sciences and humanities.
[] Why you think you were accepted or rejected:[/ul]Other Factors: Maybe they wanted a very strong polyglot? I have no idea. Oh wait! My English teacher said she had referred to me as a “renaissance man” in her letter. Perhaps “renaissance man” + the languages + checking the Woodrow Wilson School as a possible major = a promising combo for them…? I’ll bet there were many reasons. I still believe that there’s definitely an element of luck involved…
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: WOOO HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! Pton ’11 baby!! Congrats to everyone else who also got in! And hey, for the rest of you: I’m sorry!!! Over 18,000 applied this year. Many amazing applicants were bound to be rejected. I’m extremely overjoyed that I got in. I’m pulling from the Columbia waitlist and I’ll be turning down Harvard, Yale, Cornell, and Dartmouth’s acceptances. That’s about it. I can’t wait to meet some of you guys next year! WOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOO!!!!! :D I’m gonna party tonight! Peace!

congratulations everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ooh god. and i have to wait till tomorrow to call. somebody hold me! hahaha
