I run too and I like how you mentioned the water purification system you were working on. Princeton is definitely making a mistake!

Decision: Rejected

probably going to Brown, but I loved Princeton. oh well nothing i can do now. congrats to all those accepted! :)

ACCEPTED.

Objective:
SAT I (breakdown): ~2300
ACT:
SAT II: 800s in maths and physics; 770 in French with listening
Unweighted GPA (out of 4.0): I’m not American, but I graduated with the highest possible rank in my country.
Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 1
AP (place score in parenthesis): /
IB (place score in parenthesis)
Senior Year Course Load: Maths, English, French, Chemistry, University Physics (at the 2nd best university in my country)
Major Awards: IPhO award, competed at another olympiad, national/state level prizes in writing and french…

Subjective:
Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Principal/concertmaster positions in a lot of statewide youth orchestras, leadership positions at school for music, represented the country at an international leadership conference, did debating, founded/captained the science club, helped prepare students for the olympiad exams…
Volunteer/Community service: Some major concerts and other things.
Essays: Must’ve worked.
Teacher Recommendation: Lovely teachers, but I’m not sure how used they were to American applications…
Counselor Rec: Likewise
Additional Rec: N/A
Interview: Amazing. I loved every minute of it. 2 hours long; wished I could have talked to him for longer.

Other
State (if domestic applicant): MN
Country (if international applicant): Australia!
School Type: Public
Ethnicity: /
Gender: Female
Income Bracket: /
Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): Female who did IPhO and music/french/writing in addition to science?

Reflection
Strengths: IPhO, female, the fact that I got the top possible graduating score in my country, music…
Weaknesses: SATs, completely unfamiliar with the system, common app truncated all of my answers and I didn’t realise because I was really stressed at the time…
Why you think you were accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I’m just shocked/honoured. Never thought this would happen.
Where else were you accepted/rejected/waitlisted: I hope this doesn’t sound bad, but I only applied for HYP in the US, and I got into all three (I was expecting three rejections!). I reasoned that they were the only universities that I liked more than I liked the university that I’m at in Australia (we start semester 6 months earlier), but I got full scholarships to every university here.
General Comments: I feel so honoured. I hope I’ll get enough finances to go though!

REJECTED

But no worries - had Yale SCEA in the bag and would probably have gone there anyway :)

Congrats to everyone btw

My child was rejected today…same stats. Could you perhaps be of a race and gender that has historically been the majority? Or maybe you are not from California.

Writing (Write a brief description and Rate Quality on 1-10 Scale; 10 as Best): [ul]
[] Essays (Include Subjects):
[li] Common App Main: I really liked it, it was about this writing project I did to finish a novel in a month. 8/10[/li][] EC Short Answer: This was the two summers? I talked about a Summer program I did at Brown (where I got rejected) and my EE, and a summer I spent with my family.
[]“A few details” questions:

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): I guess the URM status, but I think that might go away if you’re international…[/ul]

Reflection[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays, writing!
[] Weaknesses: Math SAT score.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I have a real correlation between my SAT scores, my interest in English/Writing, my poem, Literary Society…I just think I showed a lot of interest here.
[] Where else have you been accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted: UChicago, Dartmouth, UMich, McGill, UToronto. Rejected: Harvard, Yale, Brown. Waitlisted: Vassar. Still waiting on Williams!
[li] What would you have done differently?: I think my financial aid isn’t a real reflection of how much my parents earn (they really can’t quite afford it now), and so I hope to appeal the package. That’s not doing it differently, I guess, but it is something I’m doing in the future![/ul]
[/li]
Other Factors:
**General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations, etc: SO GLAD I GOT IN! Brown was my first choice, but I had little hope for funding there and was rejected. Getting into Princeton smoothed that over and makes me feel so much better about myself and what I’m capable of. **
**Briefly explain why you applied to Princeton (This may very roughly show who really had an interest and if there is some correlation with acceptance): I applied to Princeton because of the certificate programme which allowed you to do a degree in one major and take several certificates in others. And Toni Morrison teaches there :D. That’s what makes it different from the other ivies, but there were several other reasons! **

[/ul]General Comments: Rejected from HYP and Waitlisted from Dartmouth, Penn in 10 Minutes. Wow!!!

Thank you very much :). It’s actually that water purification plan that got me a likely letter to Cornell. I don’t know if I can afford Cornell until I get finaid reports back, but Cornell already has an engineering student group that does something similar to what I wrote my essay about. It’s hard to be upset with a rejection (especially to Princeton) when I’m fortunate enough to have so many good options.

Some tough rejections for this region.
