^I suggest that you email your first choice school to ask if they prefer ED or QB match. Also, even if you do become a finalist, you DON’T have to participate in the match. You can choose to use your QB app in RD only.

When I visited a QB school last fall, someone asked your question during the Q&A session and the admission officer said that if the school is clearly your first choice, you should go with ED, not QB match. But this is only one partner college so I don’t know about what other schools would prefer.

My number one school (a QB partner) did not have ED so I participated in the match.

Similar questions have been asked time and time again. IMO, applying through QB cannot hurt you in any way, it can only help your application. QB schools are those who are looking for socio-economic and racial diversity, and by applying via the QB application vs. the common app ED, you will be noticed more in the vast applicant pool.

Sorry tonerre, I only meant that many students have been confused as to which way to apply. My D went the QB College Match route and was matched to her #1 school, so I have no idea what the outcome would have been otherwise. Good luck.

InChristAlone, pre-med is not generally a major, it is a group of classes that you can take at ANY of the QB partner schools. 1 year general chem, 1 year organic chem, 1 year bio, 1 year physics,1 year english, and calculus plus another semester of math depending on the school. Major in whatever you want to as long as you take the med school pre-reqs as well.

Hi there! I’m hoping to be a QB student this year. =)

However, I have a CONFUSING dilemma! Brown is my first choice university, but I do not want to apply to a binding early decision program for a plethora of reasons. I understand if I am matched with Brown, I am bound to attend, and I would rather not go that route.

That being said, Yale is a strong second choice for me. When applying for Yale through QB match, the match is non-binding.

So the question is this: In the miraculous event that I am matched with Yale in the match round, will QB still send my Application to Brown in the RD round? I would of course designate in my college choices that I do not want to participate in Brown’s match round, only RD. Would admittance to Yale prevent them from sending Brown my QB application at all? =/

I know I probably over-complicated a fairly simple issue, but if you can wade through that post I would some appreciate so help! Thanks!

Yes, you are overthinking something simple. Simply choose Yale for the College Match round, and then designate Brown and any other QB schools you want for the RD round. Being matched to Yale (non-binding) during the Match and then telling QB you want to still participate in the RD round for other schools is normal.

QB will forward your app to RD any schools you want if you are not matched to a binding school.

Why thank you GA2012MOM. =) That’s what I had hoped. I literally just found out about all of this Questbridge stuff an hour ago, but I like what I’m hearing. =D

For the common application, the two recommendations will be sent to all colleges that I choose to apply through common app, right? I was wondering can I have different teachers for different colleges because there are three or four teachers who know me really well.

I just found out about this program and I have a few questions.

If I apply to the Questbridge program (Deadline September 30th) can I still apply Early Action to non-member colleges (UNC for example) on the November 2nd deadline?

If I am not accepted via the Questbridge ED process to any of the eight schools, may I still apply to them in the regular decision process?

If anybody has some help that would be really great!

If you are participating in the College Match process, you cannot apply EA anywhere.

If you are not accepted anywhere binding through the College Match, you can apply to any school involved in QuestBridge free of charge, including the ones you ranked and didn’t initially get into. You may also apply to any school not affiliated with QuestBridge (from Georgetown to Harvard to NYU).

Oh I know premed is not a major, I meant which school do you think would give the best preparation for medical school, in terms of research opportunities and such. I’m down to UPenn, Yale and Columbia…I think those are the only colleges I rank, because if I don’t get into UPenn QB, rank another school and have to go there instead, I’d regret not doing RD to UPenn through QB instead…

And if we become a Questbridge finalist, but am not matched, I can do QB RD only to the schools I ranked for the college match? Or I can add whatever QB schools I want for the QB RD process?

*If you choose to rank one or more colleges (regardless of whether each college is binding or non-binding) for the College Match, you may not apply to other colleges through Early Decision or Early Action. Since the College Match is a binding early admission program, applying to both QuestBridge and another program early would violate the agreement with the other program. If you submit a QuestBridge application but do not become a finalist (notification of finalist status will occur on October 22, 2010), then you are released to apply to any college Early Decision or Early Action. *

I’m not sure about an in-state public uni, though.

^ If you rank any college AT ALL, binding admission or not, you’re technically participating in the National College Match, and therefore cannot apply anywhere EA or ED.

As for not ranking any school, as I already mentioned in a previous post, you’ll be seen as opting out of the Match process, in which case you’ll be released from the restrictions and free to apply anywhere you want.
