Hey all! I’m only applying through the regular decision process, so I’m lucky enough to not be suffering through the torment that all of the College Match applicants are dealing with (yet). However, I was wondering what everyone here did in terms of their personal common app essay. On one hand, I would like to reuse an expanded and revised version of the Questbridge essays I did because I think they are really strong. However, I think that it would make for an even stronger application if I was able to use another, new essay, that told even more about me.

I bet this question has already been asked, but I was wondering what path was taken by everyone else. I appreciate any help or suggestions!

There is no straight answer for this. Depends on the essay. In the QB application process, I wrote three entirely different essays before the one I used. I think it’s a really good depiction of who I am and after I revising it, I used it for the Common App. But I also had less time since I had to submit the Common App by 11/1. Even if I was doing only RD, I think I would still use it. There are still supplements after all :)

I appreciate the quick suggestion leslunettes, that sounds like a decent plan. I’ll try and think of another essay, but if I cannot develop one I’ll go with whatever essay best represents me.

Does anyone know how schools that don’t require the common app in addition to the Questbridge app (like Brown) want Teacher Recommendations forwarded? Do the teacher recs in the Questbridge app account for those, or do we have to assign more teachers through the common app for that school?

@TheTromboneMan; I agree with leslunettes - it really does depend on the essay. For example, I felt as if my Questbridge essays were nowhere near as representative of my writing - and myself - as would be expected of a college application essay, so I chucked 'em. I wrote several drafts of my UC and Princeton essay, and though my Common App essay wasn’t exactly *amazing/I, I feel as if the supplements more than made up for that.

As for your other question, I would assume that the Teacher Rec’s are forwarded by QB. Then again, you probably shouldn’t base college applications on assumptions, so it might give you a greater piece of mind of you called QB directly - or better yet, the college itself. Y’know, showing interest and stuff. :]

i’m a little nervous because there is a tiny bit of hope deep down inside of me haha, but besides that i don’t expect to get the match. What schools did you guys match? Mine are Stanford, Yale, Princeton.

^ I’m exactly the same way. Same dot of hope, but I really don’t expect to be matched. I ranked the same schools, in the same order you wrote them.

gadgor is only saying that because he thinks he won’t get matched. But of course, everyone has a chance if they’ve turned in everything (even if it is infinitesimal).

With that being said, I’m pretty nervous as well.

Hey. I’m new to the boards. I was wondering, does anyone know the number of QB Finalists and the percentage of getting matched, either during the EC or Regular decision round?

Also, is this wait killing anyone else? I feel like I have no chance of getting in, but I’m still going to be devastated if/when I get those rejections. How does anyone survive this feeling?!

So this is probably late notice for all of the applications, but i didnt get an email from Upenn giving me my id and password. Does that mean they ignored me or something? I got everything they asked for to them.

And yes, this wait is just deadly. I can’t wait until Nov. 30th, the day before the decisions. Not like im going to be accepted by any of my colleges anyway :/

I am a Finalist and I ranked four schools (Yale, Princeton, Columbia, and MIT), in that order.

What if I am matched, against all statistical probability, to, say, Yale AND Columbia, what would happen? I only ask because of the four, only Columbia is binding and, in actuality, it is my first choice school.

I know that QuestBridge matches you to the highest school on your list but what if I get matched to Yale and then apply to Columbia RD and don’t get in?

Sorry, I probably sound like an un-thankful whiner but I would appreciate any insight.

I was concerned about that as well so I called the schools that I ranked to see why I hadn’t received an email. They told me it’s because we choose the RD option on the Common App so they wait several weeks to send out IDs and passwords to students who apply RD. So basically that feature is worthless for College Match but helpful if we’re not matched because we’ll get that information eventually.

You only are matched to one school, so if both Yale and Columbia “chose” you during the match round, you would only know about Yale since YOU ranked it higher than Columbia, so wondering if Columbia would take you during RD is moot since you wouldn’t know about them wanting you during the match. If Columbia is your favorite school, why didn’t you rank them #1?

Yeah, i know that all of the applications are put as RD. I needed to fill out my PFAS though for UPenn which i never could do since i didnt get my ID. Does that unqualify me for the match at UPenn because i couldnt get that document in?
