How do we access financial aid?
This is INSANE!! Got accepted to Rice. After two waits this morning SOOO HAPPY
@anicole45 I put in a picture of my parents’ wedding stuff. I honestly didn’t stress about it and just went and chose a picture I liked.
Is financial aid up yet for anyone? I can’t log into it
My D was accepted with the Trustee Scholarship.
Accepted!!! I didn’t interview bc I applied day of the deadline (procrastination game strong). But I really enjoyed writing my supplemental.
@anicole45 I put a silhouette of a hawk; it has meaning in the context of my app. (Basically I really like birds.) I also think the box is just fun for admissions, so applicants have no need to think about it in terms of admission. It is a great icebreaker/introduction, though.
Does anyone know if Rice scholarships stack on top of aid? Or are they deducted?
Waitlisted
4.0 unweighted, 8 APs with all 5s, NMF, 35 on ACT, 1550 SAT, 800 on SAT II math, 780 SAT II chem, lots of volunteering and extracurriculars, ranked 1 in class of over 500.
No interview and didn’t visit.
Accepted! Honestly idk why, the only interest I showed was going to see the person who visited my high school. I have an SAT score in the low 1500s, three subject tests at scores of 720, I posted a picture of my dog in the box, my essays were (I felt) the worst I submitted to any college, and I’m not legacy.
To those reading next year, or those rejected now, college is a crapshoot. You probably have better scores or ECs than me and I get that you’re frustrated. I know this doesn’t make people feel better, but if a school doesn’t want you, it’s their issue. You are wise folk. You’re incredible students who have pushed for four years and I get that rejection stings (I know the feeling well). However, Rice isn’t the end. You’ll get in wonderful schools and do incredible things that don’t end at college. Please don’t let College Confidential get you down, because if it were up to this website, you’d think you have to get 37 ACT and cure cancer to get into community college.
How did guys access the USPS?
Accepted
My DS got accepted. We are very excited. This is one of his top choices. A great relief before Ivy day.
@AMCFito from what we were told scholarships first replace the Expected Student Contribution, then the Financial Aid, and only touches the Expected Family Contribution if it exceeds the first two
I was accepted, but for future applicants:
I got the My USPS notification 1pm the day before decisions dropped. I didn’t receive the Trustee Distinguished scholarship, so I’m not sure if the USPS thing is linked to another scholarship, geography, or something else.
@anicole45 When I visited Rice, I discovered that my great-great uncle had donated one of the smaller buildings (he was an oil baron, per Texan stereotype). My “box” was a picture of me and my brother excitedly pointing to our unique (foreign-sounding) surname on the front of the building. Besides my great uncle, nobody in my family had attended or had any connection with Rice, so we were all pretty surprised to discover this connection.
Btw, I was accepted with the 25k scholarship!
@anicole45 Congrats on your acceptance!! I am hoping that you free a space for my son over at Tulane.
Congratulations to all, regardless of your decisions!
If anyone was curious, my stats (accepted):
4.0 UW 4.5 W 35 ACT 13 total AP (didn’t submit my scores)
Intensive (professional ballet dancer) Currently taking a gap year
Lots of volunteer work with children Asian American Female
Didn’t visit or interview For the box I uploaded a painting I made that I referenced in one of my essays.
Accepted!
ACCEPTED w/ Trustee Distinguished Scholarship (28.1k) and Century Scholars Program (4k)!
Accepted!!! Yes…it CAN happen with lower grades & scores. Accepted Stats: 3.75 weighted GPA and 28 ACT. Accepted with scholarship. I feel my essay and one main extracurricular that I had long term commitment to since age 10, and demonstrated years of passion for wowed them! I think that stood out big time! It had to! I am still in shock!!! Was completely expecting a denial!
