Back the Missouri Compromise question, some people said it delayed the Civil War, some say it prohibited slavery above the 36-30.

I think the 36-30 is the right answer because the Missouri Compromise further added to the sectionalism at the time and increased hostilities.

"It prohibited slavery north of the 36° 30' border of the Arkansas territory (excluding Missouri)."

Here is something to validate that:

"In an April 22 letter to John Holmes, Thomas Jefferson wrote that the division of the country created by the Compromise line would eventually lead to the destruction of the Union:

'...this momentous question, like a fire bell in the night, awakened and filled me with terror. I considered it at once as the knell of the Union. It is hushed, indeed, for the moment. But this is a reprieve only, not a final sentence. A geographical line, coinciding with a marked principle, moral and political, once conceived and held up to the angry passions of men, will never be obliterated; and every new irritation will mark it deeper and deeper.' "

here's a quote "It was decisions such as the Missouri Compromise that drew the United States closer and closer to the Constitutional crisis that became the Civil War."

"What did most Americans agree on after the Treaty of Paris in 1783?" or something to that effective.

So Confused,

I am SURE the MO Compromise was that it delayed conflict. That's the whole significance of it. It wasn't a permanent solution (despite intentions and demarcation) and it was the first indicator/step to conflict.

Okay so some ppl have said that the presidential power to make treaties was the answer to the gov't power Q during WWI. My reasoning was exactly that such powers had always been in the hands of the President. However, it seems like I'm still having debates with other CCers over this. What does everyone else think?

It wasn't the final, all powerful declaratory measure banning slavery though. I mean it was practically repealed after Dred Scott + popular sovereignty + Kansas/Nebraska.

"COMPROMISE", guys? The question did NOT say "What did the MO Compromise accomplish during this time period of 1820-1850s". Because it was NOT limited to specific time period, it asked for what it accomplished in retrospect in American history. Its sole significance was not banning slavery, but that it avoided an impending political conflict over slavery.

i really think the treaty of paris one was to give back loyalist their land. but it really depended on the phrasing of the question in which i do not remember
