Mediterranean of Mediterranean descent, haha. And this is my 4th year in Asia, absolutely love it. I go to an American high-school here though.

@shicko - Yay! American high schools in Asia represent! When did you get a phone call?

They emailed me early Thursday my time (Wednesday their time). And the call was last friday. (Thursday for them). Thing is besides a brief commendation on my visual sample, I didn’t get any other indication of the purpose/intent of the phone call. Although the phone call was along the same lines as Littered.

@shicko-- With @little and @thelos, both were told that their applications “stood out” so since your conversation with commitee member went similar to @little, I would say your application “stood out”, so congratulations!!! I went back and read some of the graduate application thread that you directed us to. Very interesting! Thanks for the link. I see similarities on how committee members are handling graduate and undergraduate production majors. A phone call can only mean good things!!! We can all hope!!

Thank you. Its good to hear that and I hope you’re right.

@shicko, @little, @thelos–correct me if I’m wrong but it seems during the phone interview, committee member basically had a conversation with you, “wanted to get to know you” with a few questions and then told you that your applications “stood out”. How exciting for the three of you!! Did any of the members indicate when decisions would be made? From what I gather from the graduate board (thank you @shicko), the decision process has fallen behind so it may be pushed to after April. :(

Who of you turned in visual sample-photo option and found out after the fact that a 2-page narrative was added?

For me it felt like a conversation, I was asked a few questions but they were brief and I didn’t go into detail about much of it. We spent most of the time talking about USC, the program and faculty (which was useful since I didn’t visit).

The only thing he told me about admissions was that I’d be hearing it from official channels. He also said to keep your grades up if that helps. Otherwise, nothing new, just as much in the dark unfortunately.

@quwayo, what do you mean? I submitted both a video sample and writing sample…? That was the requirement, yes?

Visual sample had two options. A short film or a photo-option with six photos that tell a narrative or story. Sometime in mid-late October they added a two-page narrative to go along with the photo option. So if you did a short film, did not matter. If you did the photo-option and got it done early, then it mattered. So if you submitted six photos, you had to write a two page narrative/story that went along with your photos or you had to start all over again, I guess.

@quwayo - Originally they just had the photo sample. I looked again in early November and they added the 2-page narrative requirement. Then when I looked again in late November, the narrative was gone… so I didn’t include one.

Do some SCA applicants find out if they got in as undeclared first, and then later they’re notified regarding USC’s decision to accept them to the SCA?

I would like to know if anyone has been accepted at all as undeclared?

@shicko congrats on receiving a call! thats good news!! when the final decision reaches you, if its not too much to ask, would you mind sharing your visual sample?

i also wanted to see if anyone else wanted to share their visual sample as well. but of course, only if your comfortable with sharing before your decision. i’d be glad to share my sample as well, i always enjoy seeing the work of other aspiring filmmakers.

hope the wait goes by quick for everyone! ill still be checkin the threads and posting progress weeks after you all hear since im a prospective transfer.

EDIT: @MagicMalik from what i understand from this and previous years, it is common for an SCA applicant to hear of their acceptance to USC first as undeclared and in their letter it states that SCA is still making a final decision on their application. in that case, SCA sends a separate letter detailing acceptance to the major.

@dream–thanks.

@swatdojo, My Visual sample online has some of my personal details in the description, otherwise I’d share it now, but ill be sure to post it when the decision comes in.

Also, dont some applicants hear from SCA and USC in the same package?

from what i hear, yes it does happen where USC and SCA arrive in the same package. i was just sharing that sometimes it does happen where they arrive at separate times. although i dont know the details of specific cases where either situation might happen

bahhh

there nerves are rising

USC is also the only school I applied to in the states.

I posted my visual sample but my vimeo account likes to make it private sometimes, I keep changing the settings but here it is…

let’s see how long it lasts posted haha

also… new tron legacy trailer is out

anyone else think it looks awesome?

Georgia Girl: Oh, I know there is some interaction and involvement, but they want the first two years more focused on gen ed classes etc. They specifically told me that when I did “the tour/interview.” I had asked about LAX club and was told (nicely) that I should get that out of my system the first two years 'cause I won’t have time after starting Jr. year 'cause that is when it gets serious in terms of time commitments etc.

Everyone: One of the things that Chap and LMU tout is that the students keep their work product where as USC/UCLA they “own it.” Does anyone think that this issue is a big deal?
