Official September 2013 ACT Math Thread

I can’t remember it lol i think i put 15 as an answer though.

i thought it meant how much did he walk along the arc? the only problem with that is you couldn’t get rid of the pi.

all you had to do was sqrt (10^2+10^2)

That’s what I thought. It was how far did he get–not walk.

It showed the question mark right next to the hypotenuse, so that’s what I assumed as well.

Maybe we are thinking about a dif problem because using formula i got 15.7 i put 15 but i dont know what i was supposed to do

We’re thinking of the same question (the triangle with two sides that are of length 10, right?). If I remember correctly, the question asked what was the straight distance he walked, not the actual (arc) distance, so I just used the Pythagorean Theorem.

Same as @Triassic
I assumed they put it in a story type of problem to make it slightly harder.

If so what did yall put

I thought it said which of the following was the closest. I guess it doesn’t really matter if you took 1/4th of the circumference or did the Pythagorean Theorem because the square root of 200 is about 14.14, and a quarter of the circumference is 15.7. I’m pretty sure that neither 14 nor 16 were answers so 15 would have been the closest of the choices for both, right?

I said 15, but I did use the circumference. Guess I didn’t read that one too carefully.

Yeah i’d guess and hope so hehe

14 was an answer, and I chose it. Even if it was 15.7, that would’ve rounded off to 16. ACT always rounds that way.

I think 14 was an answer.
But normally the ACT leaves pi in the answer right?

Did you guys get 50 or 60 for the angle question with like parallel lines and an X shape?

I think 14.14 would still have to be 15 if youre going the extra distance

Well that’s 4 or 5 wrong for me I believe. Too bad hah.

How could 14.14 possibly be closer to 15 that it is to 14? I’m pretty sure these types of questions always ask you to choose the closest answer.

Was 14 choice D?

Anyone remember the parabola question answer? I mean the letter, not numbers.

What do you mean by the extra distance…?

15 was choice D
