Official September ACT Discussion Thread

Any 1 have any last week tips to help scores improve? I’m at a point where my scores jump around a lot, and just wanted to know if there is a helpful way to not do that and stay consistent.

Predictions? Goals? Study? # of practice tests you’ve done so far? Question? Comment?

Prediction: 33
Goal: 36

of tests done so far: 7 (and i’ll do at least 2 more before the test)

Comments: i hope science isn’t too hard/has a generous curve, because it’s the section that kills me. i hope i’m not tripped up by any questions on english and reading, because i have a good shot at a 36 on those sections. i wanna somehow avoid making DUMB mistakes on math!

Prediction: 31
Goal: 33

of tests: 9

Comments: Science is my kryptonite lol… English should be well, math should be well, reading should be pretty good…

science: barely under time limit. if not 20 seconds above (which you can kind of get away with)

reading: AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Prediction: 33
Goal: 35

of tests: oh boy, like a bazillion

Comments: Really, science will be a hit or miss for me. Def. most worried about this section

Reading is cake compared to Science. It has a much more generous curve and the time limit is easily manageable if you take a number of practice tests to see which strategy of approaching the passage and questions works best for you. Moreover the difficulty of each Reading section does not vary much from any other Reading section. Science, on the other hand…

Science is just taking info from the graphs and such. Easy! I usually get 34+ (though careless errors can and have brought me down as low as 31).

quote

[/quote]

Exactly. 10char

@RAlex114: YES. I hate the fact that stupid errors are what normally separate me from a consistently solid Science score.

Here is what i have done so far:

April 2009 QAS practice test: 36 M, 33 E, 32 R, and 34 S. I ran out of time for Reading though. :(

June 2008 QAS practice test: 36 M, 33 E, still have others to finish. hehe. im on my break.

Not much practice i know. But whatever. I got a 32 last spring. I need a 35. Is it possible?

In case anyone is wondering, I got a 31 for Reading, with time running out AGAIN! and a 34 for S.

So far, two 34’s
But, i gotta do better on the REading.

Prediction: 33 - 36
Goal: Anything
Comments: Gonna take it once and hope for the best

oh WAIT! If somebody has the 2008 June test, in the science portion, there is a diagram of the gel electrophoresis. One of the questions pertaining to it refer to specific bands in the diagram, which i could not see because of the dark shading of those bands. Consequently, I got that question wrong. I just saw now the letters P, Q, R, S in the diagram. Hence, I will assume i got that question correct and give myself a 35 in science.
Woohoo!

Good luck, everybody.

What do you mean by “correct”?

I’m assuming this was in reference to my post? If you don’t like it, just ignore it. You know what i like? I like how people that are new (like you, having posted only 2 things) waste time by making snide remarks of other people. I guess criticizing people means more to you than actually being productive with your time?

I was happy with my June score, but I realized a higher score couldn’t hurt… lol

Goal: 32
-E: 33
-M: 32
-R: 32
-S: 30

June Score: 30
-E: 32
-M: 30
-R: 29
-W: 29

I got through English and Math in PR, but I was too busy to get any further.

Good luck you guys!

wow umm so like the SAT, do we get breaks in between sections in the ACT ?

Do they tell us when to stop doing specific sections or is just like “you may begin” and three hours later they will say your now done. ?

in SAT i took light snacks but teh ACT admission ticket says no snacks :S ?? not even water :S ?

What NOT to Bring
ANY electronic devices (e.g., cell phone, media player)
Reading materials, dictionaries, notes, or scratch paper
Highlighters, correction fluid, colored pencils, or other aids
