December 2010 ACT General Discussion

We might as well get this thread going as the hype from the October ACT dies down. So who's taking the ACT in December? Predictions? Goals? Retake? # of practice tests you've taken? Grade? Questions? Comments? Post everything general related to the December ACT here. I'll start off.

Prediction: 35/36
Goal: 36
No. of Practice Tests Taken: ~15
Retake?: Yes, from a 34 when I was sick in September.
Grade: Junior
Questions: How do I get a 11+ on the essay? By writing 3+ pages? I thought my two-page essay was pretty solid last time and I ended up with an 8. The comments given by the ACT readers weren't very helpful either.
Comments: I'm hoping I won't be screwed over by the Reading and Science curves this time. (Last time, one more question right in both Reading and Science would have given me two more points in both sections). Also, I'm mandated to retake in April because of state testing so unfortunately, this won't be my last.

Feel free to join in everyone! :)

I am!

Prediction: 35/36
Goal: 36
No. of Practice Tests Taken: ~Idk…like 1 or 2?
Retake?: Yes, 34 in October
Grade: SENIOR 11 YEAH!
Questions: None
Comments: Just have decent curves…

Also, read my post about the essay (guaranteed 11+). Although I guess it doesn’t have as much credibility as it did before since I did recieve a 10 in October, but I recieved a 11 in June and a 12 in September.

The essay is a crapshoot, just like on the SAT. Retake it a few times and you’ll almost surely get a 9 or 10.

Also, I’m not retaking. I’m sitting on a 34 just like you guys, and I’m happy with my score.

Prediction: 32
Goal: 32
No. of Practice Tests Taken: ~20
Retake?: Yes, from a 30.25
Grade: Senior, last chance
Questions: none
Comments: Sames as wongtong, good curves

^What the hell, why is everyone taking so many practice tests? Hmm, maybe I should do some more…

^ By the “Number of Practice Tests”, I meant all of the ones I’ve taken through the entirety of my studying for the ACT (which has been more than six months). Fifteen, when taken over the course of six months, is not a lot at all.

Prediction: 33-34
Goal- 33
No. of practice tests: 2-3
Re-Take- Yes, 32 from October
Grade- Senior
Comments: Can’t choke in reading this time and need to boost science score by 2-3 points. Hopefully good curves.

yea all my practice test have been in a span of 6 months as well

Good luck to all predictions; my score dropped 3 times (except for my last test) in the past so i’m more pessemistic about score improvements. :P

Good thing i’m not taking this ACT 'cuz i’m donee.

Prediction: 28
Goal: 32

:D

Can someone please give me tips on the science? I cant seem to get the timing down, and my last ACT…I was completely stumped by the science section(ended up getting a 23, my high is a 26).

My highest comp is a 28, but I really would like atleast a 31.

Prediction-29-30?

Goal-32

Prediction: 32-34
Goal- 34!
No. of practice tests: 6 in the span of a month
Re-Take- Yes, 33 from September
Grade- Junior
Comments: Just gotta up my reading and science! my english and math are solliddddd. hopefully there’s good curves nonetheless.

Prediction: 33
Goal: 33
No. of practice tests: probably like 20 in total (section by section) and like 5 in one sitting
grade- senior

MUST ACE ACT

Anybody else feel doing more practice will not help their score? I think once you get to a point it’s just a matter of going to the test hall and owning the ACT.

true, but practice will give you confidence if you get good rsults.

Yeah, but if you get bad results during your practice, then your confidence lowers and then your ACT score will probably lower D: …

I only refer to scores when I use an ACT test from the company itself to give me a good idea of things.

But then again, like Tong said, eventually it comes to luck and just feeling good.

^Totally true. I never did well on practice tests and I have avoided them (I still have more practice tests in the red book) so that I don’t ruin my mood.

The most important aspects are having confidence, sleeping well the night before, and eating a good breakfast. If you hit all three, your score will come out the way you expect. If you have a headache, for example, your score is going to be lower than you want. And I have a lot of personal experience with chronic headaches.

Bumping this up. Surely more people must be taking the December ACT?

Prediction: 33-35
Goal: 35
No. of Practice Tests Taken: Around 10-13ish? I dunno
Retake?: Yup. 33 from last February.
Grade: Junior!
Questions: How can I improve my reading and science?
Comments: Please have an easy English and Math
When I’m doing practice tests, there’s always like one math problem I can’t do… I want a 36 on math :/

Prediction: 30-32
Goal: 33
No. of Practice Tests Taken: 3 maybe?
Retake?: first timer
Grade: Junior!
Questions: Any tips for reading because time is a BIG issue there.
Comments: Hoping to do well on the math. First time, not much prep. but we’ll see. Getting better at science, but still suck at reading.
