Ahhhh raqbau are you from Costa Rica, visiting/doing a gap year or do you just have it randomly there? I want to do a gap year…I was thinking a few months in Costa Rica.

@luckymatrim: nope its because i moved to Costa Rica for my junior year so my senior year ended in November, I’ve really only been free for like a week :)

@seungyoonfan: she is cute
What is a gap year?
Anyways, off to sleep- good night, morning, or afternoon respective to whichever time zone you are in.

oh just saw the second part of your post holocene… I was born in Costa Rica then i moved to California when I was 5 and moved back to Costa Rica like two and a half years ago and finished high school here :)

However, I’m still inclined to believe this information is correct for this year. Nov. 9th would mean they had all of the applications and could provide an accurate count of that, and it’s also quite possible that they had a plan of accepting around 750 from the start. Not to mention, last year was around 5800 so this wouldn’t be accurate for last year.

So I’m still hoping for the 7th!!

Edit: oh wow a lot has been posted while I was typing so I guess I agree with most of you that the stats are probably accurate, they are probably done with the decisions, and we will probably know on Friday. :)

I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Stanford got more than 6000 applicants this year, last year they had 5880.
And yes i agree that at the time they updated that FAQ, they were expecting to admit around 750 applicants, could be more could be less.

Does anyone know what percentage of the early admits are recruited athletes? the general opinion is that Stanford takes a lot of them early…

@holocene: I love it! all my family is here and it’s so nice to spend time with them since i’ve spent most of my life away and the weather is nice and so are the people haha.

I’m rooting for the 7th lets just hope it’s be quick and painless…

this is literally from the first link on google, don’t know about reliability
also its quite old, so I’d say maybe 5% increase in female for each degree?

"Based on the degrees awarded in the 2009-2010 school year, the ratios were:
BS: 8% female, 92% male
MS: 11% female, 89% male
PhD: 4% female, 96% male
Note that this does not completely reflect the department composition, as some students working in CS come from other departments, and the same holds true for the gender ratio in classes, too.

I think earlier we decided that there are ~200 athletic admits, right? Throw in some developmental admits, Questbridge, legacies, etc. and it’s probably basically a RD acceptance rate.

raqbau That’s awesome! Hopefully I will get the chance to go. My family mostly lives in Mexico, but I want to see a lot of Central/South America too. Spanish is so handy - I’m not fluent yet but I’m spending 4 months with relatives in Mexico next summer. Hoping that will do the trick. I’m close.

@LuckyMatrim: I saw that right after I posted. Most of the schools I have toured gave a percentage, but Stanford doesn’t seem to have one anywhere. That is actually much lower than other places (even with the +5%)… maybe that means applying CS helped.

Oh no @Holocene, don’t get me started on Neopets!! haha I used to waste so much time on there… But it really changed after Nickelodeon bought it and monetized it :(
