OMG… I’m so nervous… I have a final today and two tomorrow and know that I will receive rejection letter sooooon…

Just called Admissions. They say they haven’t decided on a notification date, but it will “probably be in a couple weeks.”

so it may even be AFTER the 15th?

Okay, so I’m a legacy. My dad recently got a letter from Stanford. I forget what he said it was about, but apparently it stated that I would hear my decision around 6pm May 9th. Not sure if this has any bearing on most of you guys, but I thought I’d share.

6 pm what time zone? Thanks so much for sharing @vt2umich

@Sharingan100 before the 15th

thx @ILikeCheeseNWine @vt2umich

@moriartee I asked them thru email

@ILikeCheeseNWine 6pm Eastern, I believe. I’ll check back in with my folks to see if it says anything else that might be relevant

.

hi just curious, what is a legacy? and wow I hope it is May 9th! Did it say if it going to be the decision date just for you or for all transfers?

legacy is when one of your parents/siblings went to Stanford. It guarantees two read throughs of your application. Your chances skyrocket TREMENDOUSLY being legacy (I think it is 30% acceptance rate vs 5% for freshman’s)

ahh so this is how institutionalized privilege works lol

@Sharingan100 Wait, what? I heard that legacies have roughly double the acceptance rate, but I guess I’ll take whatever unfair advantage I can get.

Legacy usually has a large advantage. I got admitted by Washington U in St. Louis when I applied for college as a legacy.

@v2umich i could be wrong, but I am pretty sure the advantage is far greater than that.

Last year, my friend who was a legacy student (father, mother, and sister went to Stanford) applied to Stanford. She had okay grades (I think her unweighted was 3.8-3.9) and only one extracurricular. I had that same extracurricular as well as others, and I did MUCH better in the ec that she did (I went to highest prestige possible in the national circuit, while she stayed on the state circuit). she got into stanford, i didn’t.

Lets just say if there was any one thing I would want to have going into application reading times, it would be legacy :)

Sorry about that rant, just releasing some nervous energy!

@vt2umich i know where u got that number from, but I think your chances double PER READING. If you are voted for on any one read through, you are in no matter what.

.

@Sharingan100 and others…@vt2umich’s legacy letter informing the parents of decision date for transfers as May 9 can be counted on to be accurate. They usually send these letters to all legacy parents as “courtesy” with a caveat of not being disappointed if their legacy child may not be admitted due to the stiff competition…before the release of REA decisions, RD decisions, and transfer decisions.

If recent history tells us anything…your decisions will be released next Friday, May 9 at 3PM Pacific Time.
Good luck to all!

thanks @gravitas2
