***Official Thread for 2014 BSMD applicants***

@IMGDAD thanks for that. I think my S had written how many hours he does a week and indicated which school year but did not indicate number of weeks or total hours. The whole discussion on VCU looking for 450 hours got me thinking.

@Midhelper, my son just told me that when he completed the Common Apps, he actually had to indicate whether each of the community services that he was/is involved in was done during school break or during school term. If this is the case, it would corroborate what the Admissions Office of the university told me.

For the VCU application, ( I got the VCU Interview btw), there is a separate medical school application you have to fill out for the program. It is separate from the Common App.

@actsat thanks for the clarification. We were wondering how they would know the hours. My S did not apply for VCU Med. He did apply there (accepted UG) but got a rejection for med - his friends were making fun of him that it’s bad enough to be rejected but how bad do you have to be to be rejected for a program you didn’t apply for? hahahaha So that’s got to top all rejections huh?
Now how amazing would it have been if he got accepted without applying? LOL

actsat congrats on interview!

@Midhelper Thanks! I know lots of top students in my area that didn’t get into the program and they were governor’s school kids with top notch research with University professors. On the other hand, some how about 3/4 kids from my school got the interview. Which is VERY ODD , given that no one in my school has been to an ivy league school in 3 years lol

@actsat2400 When is your vcu interview?

dont know yet, still not confirmed, why do you ask

@actsat2400 Just to see if other people have gotten theirs confirmed. I faxed it to them last night but haven’t heard anything yet.

@actsat2400 The people who get into Ivies are not necessarily the same people who get into straight med programs. These programs are looking for a very specific type of person: someone who has a passion for medicine and the potential to become a future physician. Conducting research is very different from being a good doctor, and I know more than one person who has gotten into Harvard but not a single straight med program. You (and the other people from your school) HAVE that special factor. Congratulations!

Did anyone get any word back from either Northwestern HPME, UIC GPPA or IIT BS DO? (All these are in Chicago). And also, what are your guys’ opinions regarding GPPA and IIT BS DO? I have not heard much feedback about them.

@Brown D received notification on 1/13 that she had been selected for UTSA/UTHSCSA FAME interview. A guy in the sister school to her high school also got the same notification. Interviews to be held 1/27, 1/29, 2/3 & 2/5. A friend of a friend in another school got an email saying that they had not yet decided whether he would get an interview.

Congrats, hope her interview goes well!

@zinala did she receive the news by email or mail?

@ zinala congrats, hope she does well in her interview. Are u from san antonio or outside of it.

Zryzor I am also waiting to hear from UIC GPPA, no word from them yet only UG admission. I did not apply to NW HPME or IIT DO. So far I got UM HPME interview and RPI email to complete supplemental app for AMC yesterday.

anyone have tips for st.bonaventure interview?? There was one this past weekend

or do they have any information about the interview? like how many people r there, if theres more than one interview, etc.

I would also love some SBU feedback :)

I applied to the Wayne State MedStart program and I hope to be in the top 50. What type of questions does the MedStart staff ask you during the first and second interviews? Is there anything you can do to prepare for them? Thanks.
