Official ubc class of 2014 thread :)

They really do!! Ahh, well, I hope I do! I just found out yesterday that the only kid from my school that got in last year was actually denied at first but then appealed and got in. Our schedules are kinda similar and my GPA is only .6 better than his. I don’t know what his SAT was. But all that makes me really worried! I probably put the most effort into my UBC app considering it’s my number one, but then again I put a lot of effort into other apps as well, and that didn’t stop anyone from rejecting me! So I’m not sure. All I can do is hope and wish that I get lucky or something!

yeah, ubc was the only school i was even considering. i got into a few of california schools, but they are nothing like ubc. and if it doesn’t work out, you can always appeal
good luck! maybe i’ll see you in the fall :)

That’s definitely true! Haha, thanks. And hopefully yeah!

Got in today with an 1820 SAT scoree with BBB predicted A levels  Yeaaaa vancouvverr!!!

I don’t think my school sent in my transcript till today, so I have no idea when I’ll get my response.

For those who’ve been admitted: how long did it take to get your acceptance? Either online or in the mail?

Congrats Leo! No idea how A levels work, but I assume that BBB is good, so good job! Is UBC your number one? :)

OMF- I haven’t been admitted yet so I don’t know the answer to this, but some people have gotten in without or before sending their midyear grades.I feel like the acceptance process is really sporadic because I’ve had all of my things sent in since Nov. 16 and sent my midyear grades the DAY they came out, so almost two weeks ago. And I’m in Washington, just three hours from Vancouver so I assume it didn’t take too long to mail.

Also, I’m pretty sure UBC is closed for the games this week, maybe even next too. So it’ll probably take a while for their offices to get up and running again.

Then again, I could be wrong! I’m still paranoid/crazy and check my app status like three times a day, haha.

I just want to get in here so bad! All of my Canadian friends are convinced that I should’ve been born and raised in B.C., even though Seattle really isn’t all too far or different from Vancouver. :)

Also, I’m really happy that there’s finally an ACTIVE UBC board here on College Confidential! Great job everyone let’s keep this up! :D

I completely share your enthusiasm about UBC. I actually got wait listed at Stanford (which is the nice way to reject someone with Legacy) so if I get in, I’m going to Vancouver!!!

Yeah, things are probably pretty crazy up there right now, so I s’pose I shouldn’t expect anything for a while.

What are you all looking forward to most about going to school in Vancouver? I really like outdoorsy stuff, so I’ll be hiking/kayaking/snowboarding all year long

I was offered admission for the Bachelor of Commerce program on Feb 10, 2010! I have not received the formal letter yet, but I just checked the Student Service Centre and was pleasantly surprised to see that I had been accepted. UBC has always been my first choice, and I thought my chances of getting in were rather slim (SAT: 1980 and very, very, very average grades). I’m from Singapore, but I’ve lived in the US for 7th-11th grades and am currently finishing senior year in Shanghai. OMF- I sent my application in last October, but I only sent in my supplementals for the business program on the 20th of January. I honestly didn’t think I’d hear back from UBC until later in March, April or May.

My family and I have travelled to Vancouver a lot and I totally agree, I absolutely LOVE the hiking there. Everything about Vancouver is magnificent and I really hope to see you guys this fall!

It’s nice to hear that someone is as stoked on this place as I am! My best friend and I are the only two people from our school who’re applying and while she really likes the school and whatnot, I’m the only one who’s like, over the moon in love with it. Haha, like, we went to visit back in mid October and I had my application entirely done (with the exception of midyear grades) less than a month later. She has yet to begin her supplemental applications!

I’m looking forward to Vancouver because it won’t be too different from home, (I’m from Seattle) but different enough that the experience will be new. I LOVE the Pacific NW and everything it has to offer… it’s pretty much the most beautiful place in America and Canada and the skiing and snowboarding are world class. So I’ll probably be on one mountain or another whenever I’m not in class or studying.

And let’s be honest here, the 19 year old drinking age and the four bars on campus (one that you can use your meal card at) are pretty awesome incentives as well!

And congrats andr3atron! Commerce is super selective, that’s awesome that you got in!

Also, for you two hikers, Washington has some ridiculously awesome hiking as well. Beacon Rock State Park is home to the 2nd largest monolith in the world. That, and the trails surrounding it are the most amazing hikes I’ve ever been on. Mt. Rainier is also home to the highest (and most pristine/gorgeous/awesome) crater lake in North America, so that’s worth checking out as well.

As a region, the Pacific Northwest is kind of amazing. If you appreciate nature even the teensiest bit, you will fall in love with this place, I swear! :D

UBC is in my top 4 behind Villanova, babson college and boston university, and at the moment is my top choice

It took me a month to receive my acceptance once they received my grades. Good luck to everyone! UBC!

Congratulations you all of you who got in, and good luck to those still waiting! I just wanted to say you’ve made a fantastic choice.

For those wondering, the campus is closed now for two weeks due to the Olympics. Watch the US vs. China woman’s hockey tomorrow : its on campus. :)

Starbright, are you currently a student? 'Cause I have tons of questions :)

Just in case starbright’s not a student or doesn’t come back or something, there’s a ubc international students group on facebook and they answer tons of questions! i’m pretty sure the admins are all students. :)

My facebook is broken or something, as the search tool isn’t working right. Do you have the link?

Yep!!

[UBC Prospective International Students | Facebook](http://www.facebook.com/pages/Vancouver-BC/UBC-Prospective-International-Students/59653309208)

:)

I found out that I got in yesterday and if I can afford it, UBC is my number 1 right now. Its good to see that so many other people are excited as well. My biggest concern is that I’ve heard that students at canadian universities do not have the same pride and attachment to their school as those at US unis. I love the campus family feel and I’m afraid UBC will not have it as much, but the location probably makes up for it lol.

I’m trying to apply for scholarships and the website is confusing to me, so could anyone show me a link to the page where I actually physically apply for specific scholarships?

thanks and hopefully ill see some of yall in vancouver soon!

Congrats on getting in! Happy to hear it’s your number one and I hope you can afford it, hope I’ll be seeing ya next year! But um, I don’t really know if they have places online to apply for scholarships… I heard that there was one or two that international students can get but it’s merit based I’m pretty sure and is granted with admission or something. I could be wrong, but I’ve just never heard of those.

This is just my opinion, but I feel like in the US, big universities are brought together by sports for the most part, football in particular, and a little bit of the dorm life and greek life as well. UBC doesn’t have that big sport scene and a lot of their dorms are actually singles. Even though they have one of the larger greek presences on their campus than other Canadian schools, it’s nothing like anything you can find on most American college campuses. But despite these differences, UBC seems to make up for that with their clubs and student related activities. I feel like that’s what brings people together at that school, so while it’s still campus life, it is way different. Social happenings will be there no matter what, it’s just a little different is all! I think I mentioned in an earlier post how someone who goes there told me that you shouldn’t expect to meet all your good friends in your classes or anything but that as long as you’re at least a little extroverted you should be fine. :)

I mean, if something you think you’d be missing out on by going Canadian are big tailgating parties and frat stuff, you gotta remember that there is a school sanctioned club that’s committed to drinking beer and socializing, no joke. http://radicalbeerfaction.■■■■■■■■■■■■■/

Plus, if you’re looking to meet new people, UBC’s rec program ([UBC REC](<a href=“Website Request Form - UBC CMS”>http://www.rec.ubc.ca/)) is killer.

There are tons of IM leagues and other activities to do, so you can find people with similar interests there.

Haha wow, even I didn’t know about that! i mean, I knew about the rec center but I didn’t know it was that extensive! They have so many different yoga classes, and of course, ultimate!! Stoked!!! :)

Now, if only they would go ahead and let me in already!!!

OH, also, I suggest that everyone go check the SSC and see if there’s a UBC applicant informational session in their area… I hear that it’s supposed to be really informative!!

I am too nervous about UBC, my dad’s always asking about my status, and im like THEY HAVEN’T DECIDED. I check all the time, and I’m constantly paranoid that they didn’t get something, cause i sent my stuff ages ago, and they still dont have my hs transcript and college verification transcript. my situation is soo weird, cause i attended ucla, but couldnt get credit, soo faill. ESPECIALLY with the olympics always on, I’m constantly reminded lol.
SO for acceptees, did you just go to the application status website to find out?
