yellowapple, i know exactly how you feel! it seems like everyday my dad says something like, “you know what would be really cool about you living in vancouver next year? blah blah blah blah.” and that just stresses me out SO bad because what if I DON’T live in Vancouver next year?! And UBC takes super long to process everything. 2-4 weeks after they receive it. / =

But at least they’re better than most schools in telling you since you can find out if you’re in or out online! :D

I mean really, I’m so over this whole “we will notify you by postal mail when a decision has been made” stuff. What is this, 1932???

Annnnd then there’s the Olympics, the ever-constant reminder that my parents had me a year too late, so I graduate a year too late, and am going to be in Vancouver (hopefully) a year too late and will have missed the olympics. Haha, oh well. I do hear it’s a party up there though!

of course UBC Okanagan is a great school, it’s just a matter of if you want to go to school in the Okanagan valley or not. I’m personally a fan of the vancouver campus, but its really just a personal choice. congrats on getting in!

@yellowapple, I happened to check the application status on the website and it said that I had been admitted. I still have not received the official letter yet, and it has been about… two and a half to three weeks? Might be because I live in China and with the Olympics going on and all.

sorry ignore the top post I didnt finish :S Thanks guys, but I am really pessimistic about Okanagan as it is nothing like Vancouver What are the positives of Okanagan? I am an international student. Is it diverse? Social life? partying? From what I know it’s like in a middle of nowhere :(

wish i could tell you something, but i don’t know anything about okanogan either. i didn’t even know it existed until i saw the campus option on the UBC site!

have you applied or considered applying to the ubc vancouver campus? because there’s still a little time before their deadline!

I visited the Okanagan valley on a vacation a few years back. Very, VERY beautiful place.

The campus only has 5,000 undergrads I believe, so it’s completely different than Vancouver in size. Kelowna is the town nearest the campus, and it’s got a population of over 100,000.

If you can visit, you should probably go to see for yourself. But it’s less rainy than Vancouver and is just as pretty.

I applied already and got refused I swear its because of my crappy SAT score… I am going to appeal… and ask them to look at my application again without the SAT scores as I think it was that, that brought me down SAT isnt even a requirement… I’m hoping they can still give me a place at UBC vancouver, I dont even mind living off campus, I just want to go to vancouver what do you think guys?

leo francis your getting me nervous…lol cause my sat subject scores are horriblleee, they werent required, i should have never sent them, my ap scores were enough, man i feel screwed…

what were your sat scores if i may ask?

and im currently in the bay area and theres a UBC event coming up on march 13 in san francisco, i think itll be exciting to see people from this area who are interested in going there. anyone else going??

aw, i’m sorry leo_francis! but i know somebody who got denied at first and appealed and then got in, so it’s not at all impossible! he’s at ubc now and from what i hear he really likes it.

and even if the appeal doesn’t work out, it’s probably easier to transfer from ubc-o to ubc vancouver. you already have that route as a possibility!

whatever you decide to do, good luck, forsure. hopefully the appeal will work out though!

yellowapple- some of mine weren’t so great either, but i totally forgot about the whole score choice thing! hopefully they don’t pay too much, if any attention to the sub tests.

and there’s a ubc event here in bellevue, washington as well! i’m forsure going, and am forsure excited to see other applicants as well. i know so few!!

and i really dont think that they pay all that much attention to subject tests. i didnt do so well. i got like all 470s and 520s or something like that, and i got into ubc vancouver, so i really don’t think its something to really worry too much about.

ANYWAY, UBC is back from their extended reading break, and now that the Olympics are over, we should start hearing some news (hopefully good) from the SSC!

And leo_francis101, I’m really sorry that you didn’t get in, and I didn’t know that you hadn’t when I suggested you apply. If I did, I didn’t mean to let you down! Really though, I’m going to talk to my friend who appealed and got in and ask how he wrote his appeal letter and what he did to get his admissions decision changed and pass that information on to you. Hopefully that’ll help?

Also, thanks heyyhaylee, that’s such a relief! My Spanish SAT II was muy malo, haha.

And a suggestion for leo_francis; you could take the ACT and send UBC the new scores with your appeal letter. The ACT is supposed to be easier than the SAT so maybe your scores will be better! The deadline for the April test is coming up soon though so if you do decide to retake, you should probably sign up sooner as opposed to later.

yeah im going to the afternoon session too, ubc has a lot of us students which is nicee. and you got in already, lucky!, i want that stress gone lol.

good cause my sat scores are much better than the subect tests scores, i check my status everyday…when did you apply?

and for the creeper…being someone who’s lived in both canada and the states…the schooling is the same…
Worlds Best Universities
UBC is 40 &…UW is 80…
sooo…

anyways anyone else applying to more than UBC in canada? toronto is a very close second for me…and its gonna depend on which campus i get into.
soo what do you guys think uoftoronto st george campus, or ubc vancouver campus?

How much does UBC cost for an American? I looked on the website but its pretty vague… so how much with all expenses included do you think it would be per year?
