I remember that there was about 19k transfer applicants. I’ll be really sad to not get in and see people with lower gpa get in
I thought that this year was very lenient because a lot of low gpas got accepted.
@sodapop111 hopefully irvine takes in more people because this year they were supposed to increase admission rates for uc’s interms of taking in more California students.
I was emailed by UCOP(University of California Office of Presidents) at the end of March asking for an unofficial or official copy of my transcripts from the out of state school i initially attended out of high school.(Univeristy of Arizona) Did this happen to anyone else?? I thought it was super weird but I was rejected from UCSB a few days after i sent them
https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major I’m pretty sad. Same amount of applicants like this year and less than 25% went to Irvine. I hope my essays pulls it off. I addressed Irvine specifically in the how can I make myself a stand out candidate for the UC system.
is there a FB page for UCI transfers for this fall?
@sodapop111 less than 25% actually SIR’d ??? :((
Is IGETC required or recommended for transfer? I recently got admitted to UCI as a Psychology and Social Behavior major. I am currently taking Chemistry 4 to satisfy the Physical Science of IGETC. However, I want to drop the course since I am not doing well. Will dropping the chemistry class rescind my admission? If I drop it, my units will lower to 55.
I think if you have less than 60 units it’s a red flag. I think that might matter more than IGETC. Did you TAG? If you TAG’d both IGETC & the 60 units matter
So at this point, it looks like it’s playing out exactly like last year.
After the initial wave of acceptances, they start rolling out rejections, along with a much smaller wave of acceptances.
Admitted yesterday!
Major: Biological Sciences
GPA: 3.11?
Pre-req: done
Igetc: done
Applied: UCI, UCD, UCSB, UCSB, CSUF, CSULB
Accepted: UCI, UCSB, CSUF
Pending: UCD, UCSD, CSULB (waitlisted)
I was surprised I got accepted. I put Bio as my alternate major because I thought I wouldn’t get in and Public Health (thought it may be slightly easier) as my first choice. I was so happy I got into my alt major.
I think it may have been my personal insight essays that really helped since my GPA is so low. I thought they were pretty good.
@macyphan
When you applied to the UC’s, did you check the box for igetc certified? If you did, yes, it’ll affect you. If you didn’t, message your admission counselor.
@enpz45 @macyphan completing IGETC isn’t one of the requirements for TAG, but if you said you’ll be completing it on your UC Application, you might need to update that
It seems like many students with lower GPAs are being admitted this year but I’m trying to figure out why? Does anyone know?
Admitted this morning at an ungodly hour of 4am.
Major: Computer Science
Transferable GPA: 4.0
Major GPA: 4.0
EC: None
Schools: Berkeley Pending UCI Admit UCSD Pending
Personal Statements: Ok
@DLoading
I think majority of the lower gpa students finished the prerequisites along with many other recommended major courses. Most students with higher gpa probably finished the minimum requirements. Just my guess, I could be wrong
Computer Science major here, hope my stats can help!
Admitted yesterday at around 10-11am
Last name starts with ‘N’, application ID starts with 4, UCI ID starts with 7
GPA: 3.93
IGETC: No
Pre-req: Finished
EC: Null
Personal Statements: Not bad
Applied: UCSB, UCSC, UCI, UCR, UCLA, UCSD
Admitted: UCSB, UCSC, UCI
Pending for the others
Good luck to everyone!
@sodapop111 @Zygole I wouldn’t be surprised that the 25% SIR rate comes from the other 75% of admits who just opt for LA, Berkeley, SB, and other UCs/CSUs (SDSU, CPSLO, & etc).
@shooguu I think you are correct, UCI is fairly lenient on prerequisites, and intro classes tend to be easy (at least in CS. It’s when you get to a certain level of abstraction, it gets a bit more challenging).
@KappaAlphaKappa @macyphan Ya, it looks like IGETC doesn’t matter. But you do need to have 60 units completed to fulfill TAG requirements.
yeah this is why they use a waitlist. they know a lot of people will probably pick more prestigious schools so they put some students they want on waitlist. being waitlisted is often taken as a bad sign but really its a good sign. they’re often waiting for people to say no to make room for those that might really want in (ergo the ones that accepted waitlist.) i think last year was the first year berkeley had a waitlist because they realized they were losing a lot of people to privates and Ivy’s.
