Does anybody know the chances for waitlisted biz admin with 3.7 GPA to get in? Or does anyone from last year experiencing the similar situation?
Hey guys,
So I already got accepted through tag back in mid March. I was wondering if it is too late for me to request a minor? At the time I applied I had no interest in doing a minor but now I do.
Thanks
Do you guys think that some acceptances will be scattered out for the next couple of days or is it that everyone pending now is just being rejected because of Irvine’s reputation of doing acceptances -> waitlist -> rejection
@seokminnie0218 Where did you learn of that Irvine’s reputation? By word of mouth? Has it been consistent throughout the years?
@collegelife01 I would not consider PSB to be impacted. https://www.universityofcalifornia.edu/infocenter/transfers-major
For PSB in 2016, out of 645 applicants 502 were offered admission and 280 accepted.
GPAs ranged from 3.25 to 3.70 roughly
For Psychology in 2016 1344 applied and 834 were offered admission, 147 accepted.
GPAs ranged from 3.3 to 3.75 roughly
You can look up the 2 majors http://psychology.uci.edu/ and see the differences between the PSB psychology program offered through the school of social ecology and the general psychology program offered through cognitive sciences in the school of social sciences.
The Department of Cognitive Sciences specializes in mathematical and computational modeling, cognitive neuroscience, vision and auditory research, language sciences, cognitive development, and cognitive robotics.
This means that @TransfertoUCLA made the right call by applying to the general psychology program.
The Department of Psychology and Social Behavior specializes in developmental psychology, health psychology, psychology and law, social and personality psychology, environmental psychology, and psychopathology and behavioral disorders
What I find though is that all the classes that general psychology prescribes a whole quarter to such as those related to various parts of the brain like say a whole class on “vision,” you tend to touch on any aspects of vision that would apply to the topic at hand in PSB. So a class on stress might have a chapter dedicated to neurobiology and part of that chapter will discuss how vision is impacted by stress. After you take enough classes, the foundation you pick up from a chapter on neuroscience in each subject probably adds up to the same or more info than you might gain from a class dedicated to something like vision alone.
So if you are like me and want to work as a masters level or doctoral level clinician in mental health or counseling etc, PSB is likely a better fit. For me I’m looking at MSW and MFT grad programs.
You get all the same perks no matter what program you are in. For example I just joined Psi Chi, and they only admit from PSB or general psych.
I don’t know if someone answered already (so many replies lol) but what I did was submit my SIR for SJSU just in case. My counselor said you can do that and then withdraw your SIR later if you decide not to go. You do lose the non refundable application fee though if you don’t go. I thought it was worth the risk though.
major: international studies
GPA: 3.32
currently attending at university in Japan and still waiting for decisions…
it’s been a while since UCI started to announce decisions so does this means that I am getting rejection anytime soon?
Also same situation at UCR! I hope to hear some comments from you guys!
Would they only be sending rejections out from now on because I’m still pending? And did they already do alternate major acceptances?
@Socalguy1194 I think you can add a minor once you start in the Fall
Anyone who is still pending: Don’t count yourself out quite yet, yes there may be a pattern sort of but keep in mind out of the 19,000 applicants there are maybe 500 actually on this thread. That’s like 2.5% of all applicants, so to count yourself out from a pattern reflective in just a small small percentage of applicants would be naive.
@BackNSchool83 Thanks for the reply!
Im leaning more into Educational Psychology [future career goal: to become a CC counselor], would you say the PSB program is a good fit overall for my interest? I always wanted to go to UCI for PSB but since I am on the waitlist, I am taking my other university offers into hard consideration.
@YourSenpai it’s been a constant pattern that UCI does this not just for transfers but also for freshman was well when they do rolling admissions
Since I haven’t gotten a response yet I would really appreciate what you guys think my chances are.
