Official UCI Decision thread - Class of 2013

By playing the race card, I meant something more like "you should feel sorry for me because I'm x." Your essay topic actually seems to be very good; I can see why they would accept you!

^ YEah, don't use that.... saying "feel sorry for me and accept me for any reason" shows immaturity and ad coms won't like that

I chose the "I'm badass because i traveled a lot and I know a lot about cultures and yes I'm an immigrant but I'm also Jewish and Asian and I know a lot about those cultures and that's why I'm so passionate in public health and drama because of my travels and I want to make health care better and break social barriers and racial barriers that we see in the US because I'm like 3 races and it's badass and being united is way cooler!"

Yeah, and that got a good review

I once heard UCI won't look at your essays, I think after seeing this year's weirdness with UC acceptances we can agree they DO look at the essays

Okay, so I was mad whenever I got rejected or excited when accepted/wait-listed (even though the two are far from the same), so I never really got around to doing this. But I want this to be here for future generations. Good luck.

Decision: Rejected

Stats:[ul]

[] ACT: 35
[] APs (including this year's): Calculus AB: 3, I'm taking 8 tests this year thanks to independent study (I am the first at my school to do this), but I didn't know until my applications were in, so I was able to notify a few, but not all colleges
[] IBs (including this year's: None
[] Senior Yr Courseload: Heavy-the two other AP classes (English Lit and Physics) offered besides the one I have already taken, Speech, Apologetics, Government/Economics, Band, Spanish 3...at my school, that is a really heavy load
[] Number of Apps from Your School: for all colleges I applied to except Davis (2 others), LA (1 other), Berkeley (1 other), and Pepperdine (1 other), there was no one else who applied. They are smart...but not very ambitious.

[] Gender: Male
[] Income Bracket: 200,000+
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): None
[] Strengths: SAT scores, at least one essay on each application, interviews
[] Weaknesses: SAT science scores (considering my science major), GPA
[] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: Sophomore and Junior year GPAs. They were lower compared to my 1st, 2nd, and 7th semesters: 4.0 weighted.
[/ul]Other Factors:
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: THE ABSOLUTE WORST PART OF THIS ENTIRE PROCESS WAS WAITING FOR UC IRVINE FOR A MONTH JUST TO BE REJECTED. Hehe. On the other hand, I gave UC San Diego a call and they gave me the exact reason I was rejected because they could pull up my file and look at it. It was GPA by the way. And yes, the "chart" of point distribution is valid.

I knew what I was getting myself into, so I'm cool with it. If you need help with preparing for your application or college or whatever, PM me and I'll be happy to help. I wish I had had some help. Perhaps I would have pushed my GPA a bit more.

^
BS - you are more than qualified and i can't believe you got rejected..........................

@dkbear: What school do you go to in Sacramento?

Decision: Accepted

Strengths: Well roundedness. Sound in mostly everything.
[] Weaknesses:too well rounded...did not EXCEL in any one subject, but at the lower spectrum of being a strong applicant (if that makes any sense), test scores were only slightly above average
[] Why you think you were accepted/wait listed/denied: accepted cause decent match academically, but i think my major was the main determiner of me being accepted...my stats were probably higher than most students applying to my major
[/ul][ b]Other Factors:**
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc:
relieved to be accepted...it's the only safety i applied to that i actually would consider going to. now it's between this and usc...all depends on the money, so it looks like it's irvine for me. except, i hate the city of irvine. it's such a bubble. o well, it's only 4 more yrs of life in the oc right?

[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): -
[] Strengths: I think my GPA boosted me up since my SAT is way below their expectancy, plus I'm confined in the idea that I have to have to get an A for every class. I'm also Secretary of our school's National Honor Society.
[] Weaknesses: SAT scores
[li] Why you think you were accepted: My GPA, and I think my personal statement was pretty okay-ish + involvement in sports?[/li][/ul]
Other Factors:**
General Comments/Congratulations/Venting/Commiserations,etc: I actually applied to UCI's Nursing School but I got rejected, but the school itself admitted me with an undeclared major so now I'm thinking of majoring in Biological Sciences if I go since I'm debating whether I should go with that or go to CSULB with a pre-nursing major. Overall, UCI was my first choice so I was really happy/shocked/surprised/O_O when I found out that I got in.
