shrug UCLA is UCLA. Besides, EWRIT 1A is Freshmen Comp, so I would think it'd set off warning bells if an English major hadn't taken the class by then. Granted, I already took 1B and 1C by then, but still.

anvilfactory-as a french major, i was supposed to take french 1-4 as my prereqs and i skipped french 1 and went straight to french 2 (because i took it in middle/high school) and they admitted me, so if you already took the 2 subsequent versions of comp then i think you were OK regardless of taking the first quarter. (next question-what school do you go to? my CCC won't let you take subsequent eng/writing classes without english 1.) but congrats all the same!

ksbr27 - I challenged English 1A by signing a form at Mission College since I passed the AP exam for English. Though erm, I only got a 3, so that's too low to actually qualify for credit, so I'm taking English 1A now at De Anza. XD

Thank you, and congratulations to you as well! :)

gotcha-and thank you!

For future reference for ALL Regent's invites... don't count your chickens before they hatch. It is not a sure acceptance. 3 at least, including myself, received invites and were not accepted.

Should I start a thread?? :)

It's guaranteed so long as the applicant is eligible for acceptance (complete ALL prereqs); to say that 3 Regent applicants were rejected is a bit misleading, it all came down to prereqs.

But, I encourage you to start a thread, I am kind of curious to see how many Regent invites there were.

It is not a misleading EK.... the whole theory never had anything to do with pre-reqs in prior discussions on CC.

NOW, we can see that pre-reqs do indeed matter, EK. The fact remains that an invite does not mean acceptance.

I will restate, if you are **ELIGIBLE **for acceptance, you will be accepted if you receive the Regents invite.

Without completing the prereqs you are **INELIGIBLE **for admittance.

This notion follows in the observance of freshmen Regents invites, if they are invited they are told at the time of their interview (~1 month before official decisions are out), that they are, in fact, accepted; this official statement by the interviewers is due to absence of required prereqs from freshmen applicants (the limiting factor of transfer acceptance eligibility).

If you can find ANY Regent invitee that was eligible for admittance, but was rejected then your statement might mean something -- otherwise it's a statement of the obvious.

EK, all I am pointing out is that in prior discussions the word "eligible" or "pre-req" never entered the discussion. In fact, on a couple of occasions, you did make a black and white statement that:

"There really is no 'theory' in regards to Regents invites and acceptance. It has been proven, time and time again, that if you have received the Regents invite, you are, in fact, in."

Absolutely no harm done. None of us really have any solid facts to concretely ground any of our "theories". It was always merely speculation.

I will leave one word of very solid advice for prospective UCLA applicants: FINISH YOUR PRE-REQS!

Yes, when I made that statement I was under the assumption that you were all eligible for acceptance.

Prereqs, or eligibility may not have been in the discussion, as they were assumed to have been understood.

I am just a bit tired of hearing how people are OMFG-SHOCKED-OUTRAGED they didn't get into UCLA, when they didn't bother to complete all of the prereqs.

In any case, I had a few words with admissions. The biggest "bother" was going through the effort of getting professor recs and writing yet another essay to compete. Financial aid should have stricter guidelines before sending out invites.... they should certainly take 2 extra minutes to check the application for missing pre-reqs.

Case closed.:)

Accepted
Major: Communication Studies

GPA: 3.93 at application ... only one B, but A LOT of W's (in the double digits, though I showed a trend of improvement)
IGETC: ** completed by app update
**Pre-reqs: completed all that were offered (2 were not offered at my CCC)
TAP: ** form was sent in, but won't be completed till the end of this semester
**EC's: honestly, nothing amazing during school... though see my notes below for more info
Essay: COMPLETELY last minute! But I'm a pretty good essay writer, so they weren't horrendous or anything, but definitely NOT my sort of A work. I'd give them a C+ on writing style, but probably an A- or B+ on content.

**Notes: **I am a non traditional student with an interesting story (overcoming some pretty big hurdles, etc) and a past that involves creating a pretty successful website (which I related to communications in my essay). I would have blamed my essays if I didn't get in, since that was where I had to explain a gap and all of the W's. I guess I explained it well enough though...

How many W's you have? I have total 8 and what was your reason dropping class?

I assumed that if you received the regents invite then you were automatically eligible for admission. Why would they bother sending invites to people who were not eligibile?

Hmmmm..... good question. We are not to know the mysteries of UCLA admissions' ways.

Oh well, gonna go to Cha Cha Cha in the Haight, have a pitcher of sangria and then go ransack the used CD's at Amoeba. Retail therapy.;)

Anyone going to the AAP Transfer Scholars' Day on May 17?

yeah sure i'm going... i've already rsvp'ed
but i was just curious to know who received an invite to this event?
did all transfers or only transfers who indicated that they were interested in eop (education opportunity program)--which is aap (academic advancement program) at ucla--on the app. for admission receive an invite?...
namely can you guys let me know if you can see an invite on the decision page under a link about special events and whether you indicated that you were interested in eop on the app?..
because i know that aap is for students from underrepresented backgrounds

how did you find out about this? i want in!

log on to your decision page at
https://www.admissions.ucla.edu/Decision/Login.aspx
in the side column, there should be some link called 'you're invited! special events for new bruins'
