you seem kind of useless, simon.

OMG Pinker can’t you stay out of trouble!? haha. I like when people tell other people their major is useless. It’s pretty funny.

The major makes no difference, only whether the person is useful or useless.

Thats not true at all. You need a good qualification to even be considered for a job. How many jobs are there for linguistics majors? Not many. I’m a psych major… its a degree that opens so many doors. Anything to with psych, therapy, human resources, the list goes on. Its a very good degree to have, hence why it is so popular and impacted. Oh and also pinker, was it really necessary to insult me as a person and not the idea I presented…seems like weak logic to me.

@simon… yes.

Please a BA these days is pretty much **** and you know it. Psych is a joke of a major. It is no more serious than linguistics or history (my joke of a major). Unless you are talking about opening the doors into entry level 30k/yr jobs then psych offers you nothing other than the chance to go to grad school (as do all degrees). Upon completing grad school, THEN you can actually do something. Until then, get your head out of your ass.

snob.

I lol’d.

Simonはばかじゃない??日本語が一番だよ!!!これはじょだんじゃないよ。

How is Linguistics/Japanese a useless major? You would never know that. He probably has plans for other things. Good luck with studying D0ucheology. :(

I love Japanese!! Especially sentences ending with ないの? <—I think it’s pretty sexy!!! I was thinking about minoring in Japanese but I guess I would want to find people major in Japanese first, then see if minoring in it is really necessary :)

I was thinking about minoring too! but I just don’t know yet… haha

Yah lol…I don’t know whether I could handle these extra classes each quarter or not xD We’ll see :)

linguistics ftw!!! <3

With a degree in linguistics, you can go to Japan and work as a translator, a teacher (well respected profession with great $$$ and free housing), an English tutor, businessman, etc. He really isn’t that limited…it’s actually more in demand than a Psychologist with a BA lol

I completely agree with Hijynx here. Take it from someone with 8.5 years of full-time work experience. There are VERY few BA degrees that open up a ton of doors career wise. College is not a job training program; it is a way for people to increase their intelligence, think critically and learn how to interact with others in an academic environment. What college CAN help with is providing resources to intelligent people (aka students) to find internships in their chosen field to build up a decent resume. THEN you can go out and try to find a job in the field you want to work in. Don’t expect to make much more than your non-degree holding co-workers though.

Please don’t kid yourself into thinking that jobs are going to come flying at you just because you have a Psych degree from UCLA. You are setting yourself up for major disappointment. I mean this in the nicest way possible. If you want to guarantee yourself a job and a career, you really need to plan on attending graduate school. Why do you think I am back in college at 28 years old?

bumpppppp for ucla admission anxiety
