Does anyone know where to check if our health waiver was approved or denied. I have not recieved anything since I got an e-mail that it was submitted.

Ohh and @zanguilf you do the pre-loan counseling on your own. I did mine the day I accepted my loans. It just passages with a few easy questions, it took me like 20 minutes tops.

@JIMMYofW @moniiique thanks, after my post I went ahead and did it myself anyways haha. I guess I was just curious about whether or not we’ll be sitting down with someone about our finalized financial aid to make sure everything is in order before classes start because if it’s not, the classes won’t be paid and we’ll be dropped from them. @bjt223 got an email just today about academic counseling and after the counseling we can register for classes.

@zanguilf I got it too! However, I check GROWL for degree check and it listed out the class I complete and all the classes that I have to take. Is the requirement in GROWL is classes that I have to take at UCR?

@bjt223 nice did you register for a date? what was your major again? when i did the degree check a lot of stuff is missing so i think they are still editing the info on that site for us. i don’t think it’ll be accurate till maybe our counseling date.

@zanguif Yeah, I did. It is on the last day, something on Wednesday. My major is Cell, Development Biology. Okay, good I wasn’t the only one. I thought I may have to retake a lot of them or something.

Question, have anyone access for the job network at UCR? I want to work at UCR like a work study.

@ Moniique
I promised feedback on the student health plan - so here it is:

The student health plan - compared to most has great coverage - its year round, is a 90/10 ie you only pay 10% of covered expenses and a 15 dollar office visit

Advantages - no co pay for the student health center, less expensive, no referral required if you are more than 50 miles from campus includes dental and vision
**** IF you choose your personal health plan - VISITS to the student health center have to be paid for in cash - up front then you submit the claim to your personal health insurance company - think 90 days to get your money back**** vs nothing out of pocket for the student health plan -
when you are more than 50 miles from school - you have access to the full list of the insurance companies doctors and facilities.
If you need urgent care after hours near school - its covered with a limited co pay (15)
Its cheaper than most health plans

Disadvantages:
if within 50 miles of campus - the student health center is your primary care - to go outside - you need a referral ** Unless its URGENT and after hours - then you can go to the ER or Local urgent care.
limited hours for the student health center

Summary for our family ( with 2 @ 2 UC’s) because we live a few hundred miles away - they keep their own docs here at home on breaks with no referrals needed, we are going to drop them from our plan ( saves me money) and put them on the student health plan - gives them better dental than we have more - and the cost is already built into the fin aid package

FYi - tjv35M is my son Tyler - thanks to all of you - this thread has been a great source of information over the past several months as we have been making our way though the maze of admission for 2 children at 2 different UC’s and as a side note - UCR is MUCH more responsive and helpful with information and speed of service than UCI

@bjt223 if you want the student healthcare you are automatically enrolled so you don’t have to do anything. If you already have healthcare you need to fill out a waiver so that you will not be charged for the healthcare.

Just an FYI - for those of you doing financial aid - when you do the “entrance loan counseling” online - you also have to complete the MPN ( Master Promissory Note) as well ( same web site) https://studentloans.gov. I did not see it in the UCR instructions until we looked for it - ALSO - if your parents are doing “Plus” loans to help - they need to do a separate one as well ( UCI had a great checklist for Fin Aid - UCR the information was harder to find …)

@bjt223 I wouldn’t worry too much, just contact your financial aid officer. They’ll be able to adjust your award. Are you trying to supplement some of your loans with work study?

@zanguif Not currently. I’m trying to see how much money I can make this summer. But if I can get work-study, that’ll be great. Were you offer one?

@bjt223 no I wasn’t offered, but I’m not planning on working due to hearing how hard the switch from semester to quarter system can be… Well at least for the first quarter, because I need to focus on getting the highest gpa possible so i can get into pharmacy school. If I think I can manage a job on top getting amazing grades then I’ll look for one.
