@onehandedred nice to see another History major get in! How much of your pre-reqs for the major are done? I have some questions for you I hope you can answer lol.

@tonystark93, I did TAG but then I had to withdraw from my math class in the fall, which didn’t help with the gpa & math requirement.

@mr401k
I am a History major, and I got accepted with the first batch. What are your questions?

@mr401k

Based on assist.org, I think I might be missing a single course. I did my prereqs with Berkeley in mind, so it’s no surprise to me if I’m missing a few at other UC’s. I finished Hist 4a,b,c equivalents and I’ve done half of the other two sequences (1 course in world history and 1 in American history). I don’t know if I can somehow combine those two courses into one sequence, but I assume that you can’t so I have one missing if that makes sense. Your college may have different articulation agreements, so good luck friend.

@Ijustwannasurf @onehandedred I am accepted as well for transfer for history. On assist.org, I have their Hist 2ABC and 17ABC sequences completed for the “2 of the following 3 sequences.”

My question was about the last two requirements listed on assist.

1) Select one lower-division course in Select one lower-division course in Asian, African, Latin American, or Middle| Eastern history.

2) Select one, additional lower-division course from the History department curriculum if completing the Hist17abc with on of the two other series.

I don’t believe I have either of those “pre-reqs” for the major completed. So am I correct in assuming that I’ll have to complete those last two requirements when I attend UCSB? Will this affect my ability to register into any of the upper-division history courses?

and to answer your question onehandedred. No, you cannot combine the world history course and the american history course together since they belong in separate sequences. But I could be wrong on that.

@mr401k
I am almost positive that you will have to complete those two requirements while attending UCSB. It really isn’t that big of a deal because you only need 40UD units for the major. You will have plenty of time to get that done. You could always take the summer session there as well to give yourself a head start…

@Ijustwannasurf yeah I was thinking of possibly heading out over summer and getting it over with or possibly taking it over Fall quarter just to get over and with it. I just dislike the idea of still messing around with lower-division courses when I really want to focus on my UD, which I’m assuming will be tougher. But oh well that’s the reality of it lol.

If I wanted to do it over summer, would I have to make an appeal of sorts to attend in Summer 2014? I thought our transfer was only for the Fall.

I can’t say for sure for UCSB but for UCI, the summer session is handled by a completely different department(?). They literally accept everyone as long as they pay. I really wouldn’t recommend summer courses though. I know you’re probably excited to start at a 4 year uni but it’s a completely different environment. The pace is ridiculously fast too. I’d suggest taking your time if you don’t want your GPA to plummet.

@mr401k @onehandedred

If you look under the “steps to enrollment” tab in the portal after you have been accepted, you will see that one of the requirements is to consider the summer early start program. They have a program just for transfer students called “Transitions”. So they seem to be encouraging it. They also offer housing during the summer for transfers too. I’m just not doing it for the reasons onehandedred mentioned: fast pace, and completely different environment.

But if you’re missing some prereqs it might be a good way to go. The lower division history courses are pretty easy so it shouldn’t be too much trouble.

Rejected. 3.74 overall, 4.0 major GPA.
Mechanical Engineering major and missing 2 Pre Reqs. O well I didn’t want to go there anyways

Wow, UCSB really wasn’t joking when they said that they reject applicant’s who didn’t complete critical pre-reqs.
Regardless, both of you guys look good and I have no doubts you’ll get into your other schools

@HenryGG @Aaryan520 What two required Engineering classes do you guys miss? Are they UCSB’s ENGR 3 and ME 16?

Has anyone got physical admit packet yet?

@gawdzillah
I was in first patch for both SB and SD. Only got admit packet from SD so far.

@gawdzillah
Nothing yet
And I was in the first wave of notified applicants.
Not sure when they mail out packets but I am hoping to get one any day now…

@gawdzillah

I got a letter saying they received my SIR (intent to register). It also had instructions on how to handle transcripts, and it talked about the “steps to enrollment.”

So do they just send physical letters if you complete your SIR? Or are they just slow? I got in the first batch too.

Accepted!
