I appealed to ucsb because i now have my math requirement complete and it now makes me even more competitive to be accepted. I would have gotten in if i would have had that done so i'm keeping my fingers crossed. I even got a cal grant and seeing how ucsb is my final hope to attend a UC, it would be a major shame if my grant goes to absolute waist.......Either ucsb or University of Arizona.....So i'm just praying ucsb recognizes my hard work and can accept me into their wonderful institution.

Anyone else appealing as a transfer student to ucsb?

@CollegeDropOut1 jealous of me? lol, man i’m jealous of you! You got into ucla and ucsd which are some very awesomely nice schools man! I didn’t make the waitlist at UCSD because they already had their limit fulfilled for the 2014 semester…bummer. But i have strong hope for ucsb, especially considering my cal grant. If i fail to get into ucsb, then University of Arizona is very awesome school (that i have also visited) that i will no doubt also enjoy attending. But damn…i’ll have some killer debt by the time i’m done as an out of state student haha

@Matt4200 my UC gpa is anywhere from 3.24-3.33. I got an A grade for my math stats course during my spring term (taking 5 courses=17 units) which was my largest class load ever in my duration at community college. I also have been maintaining a 3.0+ semester gpa since the fall 2012 term (2014 spring semester gpa= 3.05). So i really feel i have a strong chance at being admitted off of appeal…i’m hopeful man.

@kyle2015, did they specifically tell you that was the reason you were denied? They have been known to reverse their decision if math is completed with a good grade and a student appeals. Good luck.

@Harren Thats great in all man, but how exactly did they admit you? What was the basis of your appeal? I appealed after getting an A in my math course while maintaing a 3.0 semester gpa despite taking 5 courses and they still rejected me, told me they didn’t have enough space left in the sociology department. However, i have been accepted to the university of Arizona for the spring 2015 semester for sociology. I’m just searching for upper division sociology courses at U of A that will transfer to a UC (ucsb or ucsd) so that if a UC accepted me next year it would be like i took at least 1 full semester of classes at the UC institution. It’s just a bummer because i technically should have gotten into ucsb and ucsd based off of what admissions officers told me after i explained to them how my appeals processes were denied. What i do know is that since my gpa will be a 3.38 after i take my final fall course at my cc this fall and my english and math courses already complete, the ucsb rep told me i will most likely be accepted for the fall 2015 term. Ucsd on the other hand said that if i choose to go the U of A route, i would need to have a 3.2+ semester gpa. So, i know that if i wait for next year fall i will surely get into ucsb and ucsd…but im not comfortable sitting out an entire year when i should have gotten into a UC man…i mean i worked my ass off and this is how it ends…with nothing. But i did get into U of A which has a higher ranking sociology department than all the UCs except UC berkeley and ucla according to US News ( U of A rank #20/ UCB #1/ UCLA #8 i believe) so i guess my hard work wasn’t waisted. I have been wondering whether i should just go to U of A and finish my undergrad there and attain my BA, or if i should go there just for the spring semester and then transfer to a UC that accepts me for the fall 2015 term.

Nonetheless man congrats. I only wish i could’ve been taking the journey along with you…

@robiee yep man i appealed a while ago (mid june) but they rejected me. They said that although i fully qualified for acceptance there were no more seats in the sociology field left…

Basically i was accepted they just had no more room -_-

Btw i hope you got into ASU its a decent school with excellent opportunities. I got into the U of A for spring 2015, guess we will be across from each other.

well i’m waiting until next year. I turned down U of A’s offer, i’ve worked hard at my ccc to get into a good UC and UC is exactly where i’ll get my BA. UC system is too great to overlook in my personal honest opinion. I’ve already tagged to ucsb so i’m very happy about that. I know i’ll have better luck with the 2015 UC admissions since my igetc will be complete and i’ll finally have my associates degree. I’ll be 24 by the time i transfer though so i hope there are other students in my age group at ucsb and any other UCs.

Most important thing is i’m getting this done…so age really means nothing it’s about bettering myself for my own personal benefit in order to ensure that my life (and my future family’s life) is much better in the future.
