Hey guys!
We are getting closer and closer to March 15th and I just didn’t notice another thread. I thought this could be a good place for stats, results, and questions regarding our hopeful admissions
Here are some of mine
White female from Southern CA (San Diego to be precise)
Intend to be a history major
GPA:3,68 WGPA: 3.9 my weak point
Never took the SAT but have an ACT of 31
VP of Speech and Debate, member of varsity academic league, art club, and cellar door (literature club)
400+ hours of community service
Got to go to UCLA for 1 week in the summer as part of a leadership and politics program
Played basketball freshman year but never continued it
I thought I had some shit essays, but my college counselor thought they were really good so I dunno anymore. Maybe a 7/10
I don’t feel I have the best shot of admission here but it’d sure be great to get in. The other UC’S I applied to were UCI,UCLA, & UCB and there is no way in hell that’ll come through.
Hey Sam
I’m an applicant as well and waiting (slightly impatiently!) to hear back. Here are my stats:
White female from Southern California (Los Angeles area)
Intended bio/environmental science combined major (Only school to have this!)
GPA: 3.8 Unweighted; 4.5 weighted
SAT 2040, no ACT
Lots of instrumental music, VP of that program, job after school, VP of Earth Club, many honor band involvements, National English Honors Society, etc
Marching band for all 4 years and was in the leadership program in that
I think my essays were pretty bomb xD
I really want to get into their honors program, but no matter what I will probably go to Santa Cruz. The school fits me so well!
White male from Missouri here.
31 ACT and 3.9 unweighted GPA. When I use a UC GPA calculator it translates to around 4.1 or 4.15 I think.
I applied for CS here and at UCSB, Cal, and UCLA. I know Cal and LA are long shots but I hope to have a chance here and at SC I’ve been counting down the days until the 15th and I’m very excited.
@Gumbymom
Hi- I am obsessively reading past UCSC “chance me” and acceptance threads, and came across this post from you in October:
“Based on your Stats:
UCSC would be a Low Reach as an Engineering Major
UCSC would be a High Match as a Math Major.”
I did not know that UCSC looked at majors and am confused by this. Feeling pretty nervous as I was waitlisted at SDSU for biology, and denied SLO with a 3.92 and 1840 SAT. My chances would have been better with a different major- which I am regretting! I thought major choice was not a consideration with UC’s?? Thanks!
@mers369: Each UC will admit based on their own criteria. I know for most UC campuses, Engineering majors are admitted by major into the College of Engineering, while the some of the Colleges such a Letters & Sciences, Biological Sciences will admit by division or into the College as a whole. Engineering majors are competitive at all UC campuses, so you usually need at or above stats to get an acceptance. I am unable to determine UCSC’s admission criteria, since I see nothing posted unlike UCSD/UCLA/UCD which spells out how Freshman are admitted. I think you will have a better chance as a Math major also due to a lower number of applicants to that major vs. Engineering.
@EnviroChris I didn’t find a program like the combined major program at any other school. The best I could get would be a double major but no combined major programs. Though then again, I didn’t look all too hard. Most schools are good with letting you have an environmental emphasis with a bio major though
Hi, today when I went to check my application status I noticed that the notification schedule that was there in the past was gone and now it’s blank. It just says Application Status and my name and that’s all. I looked at some old threads and from what I could gather this could mean that I’ve been wait listed or accepted. Has this happened to anyone else’s account/does anyone have any knowledge about this? Could it just standard system maintenance?
