I can also say, living in a district that sends 150+ apps to Illinois each year, that they strong encourage out high school counselors to advise students to send all scores that include a high component. It’s really not ambiguous at all. It’s just that they refuse to use the term ‘super-score’, which just confuses the matter unnecessarily.

I like Balthezar’s comment. They probably don’t bother looking at anything but the highest single sitting score for most applicants, because they can make a clear decision without having to drill down to components in most cases.

@YZamyatin I believe the problem is that people do not understand that the composite score is not so important when applying to engineering schools. The score is of course a factor, but in the case of engineering, the math and science score is what holds value to the College of Engineering. The admissions counselor basically tried to get the point across that we “superscore” but we don’t make a new score for you - because it is simply not necessary.

The solution: just send in scores and you’ll get your highest sub-scores used in the evaluation, as the website indicates.

My understanding is that Engineering highly values a good Math subscore, not so much Science. The curriculum is science-heavy, and to do well there, you’ll need to know/do well in your Calc and Diffy.

Just a random thought. Truly bizarre that the COE doesn’t just look at SAT Subject Test scores to help differentiate between applicants.

I’ve asked about it and apparently the University is very resistant to instituting varied admissions requirements between Colleges. It’s as if they aren’t aware of how selective they have become, or don’t want to admit that some Colleges are much more selective than others.

Second Major: CS + X (Comp Sci. and Linguistics)
6 AP’s in sophomore/junior year (5 in senior year)
school doesn’t provide rank (only 80 students in my grad. class)

My hope is that my essays and my extracurriculars, which both show me leaning towards a STEM focus, will make up for my extremely low GPA and help me get into CS. Some of my EC’s include being the founder and pres. of my high school robotics club, competing at local hackathons such as CodeDay and DubHacks at University of Washington-Seattle. I am also a member of the board for my school TSA and the lead editor of the school journal, as well as being a varsity tennis pla yer and team captain, comepting at state this season. Please chance me for DGS and for my majors.

Strong essays and recommendations
First gen. college student

@nexusguy Test scores don’t determine everything. Yes they’re a factor, but a 31 will not automatically disqualify you. I got into CS Engineering last year with a 32. Test scores are important, but they’re not everything. I’d say you’ve still got a shot. Best of luck!

I’m An out of state student who applied to uiuc and now I’m starting to get a little nervous. I applied to the college of Engineering in early October for CS.
SAT: Math: 700 Reading: 650 Writing: 720

GPA (weighted/unweighted): 4.36/3.91

I have taken multiple AP classes and scored a four on the AP CS exam, and am taking all AP classes (including calc AB and Physics 2).

EC’s: I spent last summer at a 7-week research program at the university of Florida and competed in a national simulation and programming competition this month, which I wrote about in my essays. I am in all the honor societies except for math and art, and have created a service club with my friends this year. I am also on the dean’s list and have received the AP Scholar award with honors. I also play tennis and the guitar along with various community service activities.

Extras: Puerto rican (born in the states), but I still count as a minority

Anyone can chance me? International applicant from Singapore…
