so I spoke to the senior advisor in the college and it turns out that 34 courses reaming means that I am exactly a sophomore when I arrive at uchicago. Ok, the whole course/credit/quarter thing is confusing, but how he explained it to me is as follows:

An undergrad needs 42 ACADEMIC courses in order to graduate and students carry a course load of 3-4 courses per quarter. Therefore, one year is about 9-12 courses. So, the way you figure out how many academic years you have reaming is to look at how many courses you are receiving credits for and see what year that places you in.

9-12 (also 13-17 although this would make you further along than most sophomores) credits completed is a sophomore (2nd year)

18-24 (also 25-26 although this would make you further along than most juniors) credits completed is a junior (3rd year)

yes waller, my apologies, by “credits” I meant courses. Sorry about that

And yes, if UChicago is giving you 9 of the courses that you took at your previous institution as transferable courses, then that means you have completed a full year (you’re first year) of study.

Oh dirty.chicago, don’t worry, things will work out. Honestly you should do what I did. Give the senior adviser a call. I believe his name is Matthew something-or-another, his name and number are listed on the letter that talks about credit evals. He will be able to explain to you how your courses are transferring.

ya, while we do get credit from the placement exams, it’s still going to suck a little, at least for me. i took 3rd year level french classes and japanese 1 last year, but after spending a year in china studying abroad this year and having mainly just chinese classes, there’s no way i will be able to get that many credits for french and japanese.

Hey everyone: Did there turn out to be any correlation between receiving a faux 2013 acceptance letter and eventually being accepted? I got one, and I was accepted. What of the rest of you?

Yeah, I was accepted and got that letter too. I think everyone who got one was accepted, but some people who DIDN’T get one were accepted as well. I personally know someone that was.

Hi all,
I haven’t posted before but I’ve been accepted as a transfer. I called the college aid office today, and apparently the financial aid info will be available early next week.
