^ gunit, might your counselor be willing to do me a huge favor and try to get a straight answer on regular decision? I have been told by admissions that a) decisions will go out on a rolling basis starting in January through April, and also b) that the people who told me a are incorrect and that all decisions will go out in April despite the website saying it will be rolling. I really need to know because if we can’t find out from U of M till April, we may need to put a deposit in at MSU to secure a spot. Thanks!

@JT2011
I understand your point, but leaving them waiting for an answer over winter break will only leave them bitter and they will be livid after the winter break when they call.

Yes, UMich could do that, but should they?

Lets ask captain Hindsight ( South Park ) =p "

^ I totally don’t think they should. I would/will be livid myself if that happens. But, honestly, if I was in the admissions office and students getting in or not didn’t have any personal affect on myself I would probably do the same thing. I completely don’t agree with it on the applicant side though.

Okay, what is all this about leaving time about concerned parents to call into admissions? The decisions are the decisions. Who the hell would call in and complain or ask questions?

LMAO you’d be surprised how many people will call.

Some families are not used to getting a “no”

This is based on nothing but common sense: there is NO way UM, after the ED releases on 12/17 or 12/23, waits until April to release the rest of the decisions. Just NO WAY. They will continue to roll decisions from January through April in waves every couple weeks.

This is second-hand, but a kid at my school apparently called the admissions office today and they said that they would begin to release decisions tomorrow. I’m not sure about that statement’s veracity, and frankly, there have been so many rumors and dates I have no idea. But we can hope.

HAHA, that’s just like the rumor that they would be released today or yesterday or the day before that. God, It never ends. I keep checking my email like crazy, but NOTHING. It is getting unhealthy. I even check it on my phone during the school day. If it was tomorrow, I would be so happy, but I am betting on the 17th or 23rd. So many rumors, how could all of them be true? I don’t know what to believe anymore.

And also, people drive me insane. IF YOU GET DENIED OR DEFERRED it is what it is, how is calling the admissions office going to change that? That’s just beyond obnoxious…

I know a few cases when people appealed the decision and got in.

Not saying I would do that , but it has been done before.

LOL Obnoxious? welcome to the real world buddy

Yeah, I doubt calling the admissions office would do anything about your decision. It’s not really the kind of thing that’s negotiable. I agree with Bigshot, some families won’t just take “No” and think that the rules will be bent for them.

Yeah, it’s totally ridiculous. I know, I for one, will not be calling in if I get a rejection/deferral (although, I am 90 percent sure one of these will be the decision I receive). I will just pout, and then GET OVER IT, like an adult. This is applying to college. Just because you think you are some smart ass hot shot, doesn’t mean you will get in wherever you want. Other people applying are at the same level if not above your level. You’re not special.

Pretty sure it’s rolling? At least that was always the impression I had.

well, if i get deferred ill damn sure want a reason why. maybe your stats arnt as good as others, but if someone has at least a 32 and gets deferred, maybe there was a mistake. FYI, this happenned to my brother. they lost his transcript and through no fault of his own he was deferred. think before you talk next time, youre coming off stupid.

Okay, I am actually not coming off as stupid, especially when I think it is completely stupid that every individual person has to find out exactly WHY they got deferred. Who cares if you got a 32 on your ACT.

Yea nobody gives a **** what ACT score you got. If you don’t get in move on with your life. You’re the one looking kinda dumb.

i didnt get a 32…that was an example. i was simply saying mistakes are made and if you are an above average student and you think there may be a mistake then you should probly call.

Whoa, calm down. If you do have amazing stats than it might be worth it to call and find out why…Other than that: No. No need to get all hostile. People can call the admissions office if they want to. I personally wouldn’t and don’t think it’s really worth it for anybody to, but crazy things like what happened to Goblue’s brother do happen.

My son is an EA applicant but he doesn’t have a sibling in UMich. After I saw the message from souris regarding the Student’s Center information, I decided to activate my Friends account (I had my son invite me to access his data in Wolv when he set up his account). I was able to login and visit the “My Student’s Center” page under my son’s name. There are “Account Inquiry”, “View 1098-T” and “Financial Planning Calculators” linkes under the “Manage Finances” tab, a “Financial Aid” link under the “Financial Aid” tab. All the balances are showing 0. I am not sure if this means anything or not. Does anyone else want to try the same thing and see what will happen?

I agree livelifeoutloud. Didn’t mean to get hostile. I was just ranting. I just think that some people will call for the wrong reasons. I mean, I am sure most of the people applying are above average students, it’s just competitive.

K then I’m just confused by you. Why would you pull a random score out of the blue and use it for an example? Whatever idc I expect to get in but if I don’t I’ll be able to move on without pestering some secretary in Michigan.
