I applied there for this program. Will I not receive the notification for the GAP if I have not received an acceptance from UPitt? Also, where on the website can I see my admissions status. I cannot find it.

You would receive Pitt admission first before you can get GAP email, the status site: [University of Pittsburgh: Undergraduate Admissions & Financial Aid](http://upoak.askadmissions.net/Vip/Default.aspx), but email them to ask is more current and accurate.

Does anybody have any advice for the interview? or want to share their experience?

Hi,

I am a rising senior and looking to apply to this program. For those of you who have been selected for an interview or have been selected to the GAP Program, can you please list some of your high-school stats so that I have a basis for comparison?

Interview reqs. are pretty high. I had 2380 SAT, 790 Bio, 800 Chem, 800 Math II, 3.98 UW (rank 2/300). Had plenty of hours of hospital volunteering, shadowing, did EMT and research as well. Got interview but not selected. The students who got selected were even better, and I think their passion had shown a little better during the interview. I think in general the program particularly likes to see research and they value high stats quite a bit. I’d say SAT around 2300+, standard rigorous course-load, near 4.0 and research as basically what you need to reasonably secure an interview. The sense I got during interview day is really only the top kids have a decent chance of getting selected. Good luck, let me know if you have further questions and I’d be willing to share my interview experience with anyone who’s interested.

breaker746, those are fantastic scores. There is not much higher one can go!

Thank you for offering to answer questions.

1) In retrospect, what would you have done differently?

2) Could you share some interview questions?

3) From past posts it appears that there are 2 interviews - one with faculty and one with a student. Was this your experience?

4) Any idea whether non-lab research is viewed the same as lab research?

Thanks in advance!

There were two interviews (now that I remember). The student one was more for you to learn more about the program/ask questions, but they still went off a checklist of basic interview questions like “tell me about yourself”, “why medicine”, etc. It’s best to come off as “chill” and sociable. There is one key thing I would have done differently. There is sort of a “info session” with the admissions director-- one portion with the parents, one portion without. In the portion without the parents you are supposed to give a brief intro about yourself and talk about your interests. I think the admissions director makes the final call and she makes a note to remember everyone from those “info sessions.” That means in that session (although it may seem relatively innocent), you have to come across as very competent, social and interesting. She better remember who you are and as an appealing character. See if you can come up with some cool interests or anything. I was sort of blindsided by that and came off as pretty average. The interview with the physician was relatively straightforward as well. I had the similar basic questions and had a chance to talk about my experiences/research, etc. I would say in general, any research is fine as long as it is medicine/bio-related, interesting, and you can talk about it well. Good luck, let me know if you have further questions.

Hello everyone! I have a quick question. I was invited to apply to the GAP program 2 days ago and the letter that I received said that I would receive information about the application via email within a few days. However, I have not yet received an email about the application. I am getting really worried now because winter break starts really soon and the people who are writing my recommendation letters will start going on vacation. And… because we only have a month to get the application done, if I don’t get the rec letters before winter break, I won’t be able to get them on time. Does anyone know what to do if I have not yet gotten the email? Thanks in advance!
I am going to submit my GAP app soon! Does anyone have any advice on the application or interview?
Has anyone been accepted yet or will they come out tomorrow? Does anyone know if they send rejection emails too or if you can assume you got rejected if you don’t receive an email?
For anyone wondering, I called the medical school and they said that all notifications will be out this week, and that they send out all decisions, including rejections.
My D just got an email today for GAP interview.
