I live in PA and I really really really want to get into Pitt Combined med. I will be interning with the head of neurosurgery at Pitt and he’s giving me a recommendation, will that carry any weight? Also, I know a few doctors that could give me excellent recommendations, would that carry weight also?

I’m kind of lost, and I wrote this up at 2 am so excuse my poor grammar or lack or organization in this post, I can format and repost this if anyone would like me to.

Thank you in advance!

GPA is pretty low to be accepted for program. The GPA cutoff is pretty strict, so I wouldn’t think that anything below 3.9 would be acceptable. Really work hard junior year. To be honest, I think that the GPA will inhibit severely.

Please share if you have heard about acceptance from PITTS.

Didn’t realize that PITT GAP would release their results this soon. My S hasn’t heard yet. Good luck to other interviewees.

Accepted today :))

mabboud, congratulations!
What’s your stat? Got Chanselor scholarship?

congrats mabboud! are you in-state or out of state?

^mabboud stats please?

Out of state. No Chancellor scholarship.
ACT 33

ISEF finalist
Soccer and Swim–Varsity
Various community service

^what other medical ec’s did you do?

also mabboud, how many APs did you take?

is 100 hrs for hospital and 100 for nursing enough to get an interview?

Got the invitation to apply today!

How many of these do they hand out? Is it to pretty much everyone who indicates an interest in pre-med, or are they more selective than that?

hey, just wondering if there was a separate application for the gauranteed admission program after submission of the undergrad application? and if there is, what exactly is it (i toured upitt campus and the gentleman i spoke to told me if would possibly be another essay…is this true)? i submitted an undergrad application back in october and was accepted into the undergrad program but have heard nothing about the med program application… i called the admissions office and the woman i spoke to said they’d only be sending them out after december 1st (which i believe was the deadline?). somebody please clarify this!! thank you!!!

Well, they invite you to apply. You don’t contact them. I got the letter inviting me to apply in mid to late October, so the December 1st part is definitely not true. The deadline for submission is 4 weeks after receipt of the letter, and there are 2 essays and 2 VERY specific recs.

I am very sorry if the tone of my post sounded rude. I was in a terrible mood late night, and some of it seeped through into my typing.

Also, the website says that interview notifications are sent out in the second week of February, which means that the absolute latest that you can get your letter would be early January. Check your spam though! That’s where my email first went…

you didn’t sound rude no worries! thank you for the information! im guessing you turned in your undergrad application very early then? because it’s based off this that you are either given an invitation or not right? i guess i’ll try calling the school tomorrow cause i seemed to have cleared out my spam a long time ago :O!!

The letter seems automatic if you apply to premed or biomedical engineering and have a CR+M score of 1450 or ACt of 33.

I applied before the December 1st deadline for the program, and recieved my undergrad acceptance letter with consideration for a scholarship.

Unfortunately, I haven’t recieved the invitiation to apply for the GAP program yet though. Should I be worried?

I meet all the requirements (4.0 uw, really hard cirriculum [8 AP/IB classes], and a 34 + 2270 on the SAT). Would it be in my spam or something?

Any help would be appreciated.
