DataBox, I wouldn’t be so quick to say that. Your schedule looks intense enough to me, enough to hurt your mental health as well and you also say you’re doing USAMO and all those other science competitions that wildlyhandsome may not be doing. Of course I’m not trying to be patronizing, I really admire you if you could handle that because there’s no way I would be able to handle it.

Trust me, my schedule this year is worse than my schedule next year, and I have yet to lose my sanity

This is a short summary of my current schedule:

I’m currently taking the three hardest classes offered at my school (in terms of grading), dual enrollment courses (inclusive of olympiad training courses), am president of five extremely significant school clubs (class student council, math club, harvard model congress, model united nations, ahsme), serve on three school/governmental boards, have varsity practice for 2-3 hrs every single day, am on the ARML team for my region, participate/attain many extremely high national/international ranks in various math contests (AMC, AIME, USAMO, CAML, MathLeague, ARML, SMT, etc), regularly attend conferences, volunteer about four hours/week, serve as a correspondent for the school’s mock trial team, robotics team, and newspaper (not a member due to lack of time, but the aforementioned organizations often come to me for assistance), am an active member of several more clubs, self study AP’s, play the viola, and then some…

And on average my classes this year are definitely more challenging than the classes I will be taking next year…

I, quite literally, lost that this year.

How much volunteering do you guys do?

I’m taking three online classes. Maybe a chamber music camp that’s hosted at the local university, and some rafting with family.

Currently 60 hours for a local camp. 60 more will be under my belt by the end of July.

I have well over 400 hours as of right now.

I’m taking English III Honors, Earth/Environmental Science Honors, Civics and Economics, and continuing physics honors. What are you taking?

I’ve done 51 hours this year with teen court, probably a total of 30 hours with mayor’s youth council, like 60 hours in my official educational capacity, 15 hours at my local library, 4 hours with a local non-profit.

I’m tired of volunteering, I want a real job…but so far I have around 150 hrs (from frosh year). I haven’t done any this year. I was thinking I would stop volunteering now…I mean 150 is enough, right?

Do what you enjoy, not what looks good.

true dat…

It’s just because I had the most boring volunteering job every Saturday from 10-2, sorting through papers and filing them, literally, as well as doing heavy lifting. The job description was misleading, I thought I was going to be able to do something I enjoyed while there. I don’t want to go back to volunteering there again…and since I’ll be old enough to have a job soon…I rather have a job/internship.

So far 40 Hours. This Summer should be getting 96 Hours more? So 136 Hours Total. I Volunteered at a Hospital so far, and will keep doing that, but add a Science Museum to the Mix.

OK, here is my problem fellow rising juniors. I started 9th grade with a pretty rigorous courseload (all honors classes) but this soph year was just…I dont know. I just chilled and never touched a textbook.I have A’s and B’s, but thats because I’m taking easy regular classes.
Soooo I’m freaking out about my junior year already. This is my schedule so far…

AP US History
AP Biology
AP Psychology
Algebra II Honors
AP Art 2-D

Need two more classes…any suggestions?
I was considering Honors Physics and Trigonometry, but maybe thats too much.

DataBox, all I can say is…WOW.

Now again, don’t mean to be patronizing because I do admire you, but the question is: WHY?

Honors Physics
and either AP Envi or AP English

yeah, databox, do you actually enjoy doing all that stuff? Or do you just do it to “look good”

I don’t know about you guys, but I’ve seen maaany posts belonging to DataBox and it looks like he is trying to fish for compliments…

Ok DataBox, so yeah, those are pretty incredible stats, but you look like a freaking robot from out of space instead of a normal human being (this isn’t intended to be an insult LOL)

And I fear that these are the kind of kids that later on will make me look stupid on the college admissions.

Oh well.

Hmm…now those are questions that I am asked on a consistent basis. To be completely honest I don’t do what I do just to look good on paper. I am absolutely exhilarated by every single thing I do. I love things like MUN/HMC, public service, student council, and math and have accomplished quite a bit in those areas. Trust me, I’m not the type of person who would do an activity just to look good on paper (I don’t have the type of patience required for things that don’t appeal to me), I am just one of those lame people with too many interests (I know, it’s not good)…I love working and I put my best effort in to every single thing that I ever do, which is why it may seem that I just want to “look good.” Frankly, if that was what was motivating me, I would have burnt out by now, as my schedule has been about this hectic since middle school, living with about 5 hours of sleep of day as an 8th grader definitely will not work out unless one has a very strong desire to learn and succeed.

That’s a curious statement, considering I answer the same questions you guys do, I won’t go out of my way to boast, I behave with the same general tone I normally see on CC. Frankly, I’m not that insecure about myself. I will agree that many posters on CC are just fishing for compliments to boost their self esteem though, aka “I ONLY have a 2390, can I get in ANYWHERE OMG” or “Harvard’s my safety, right?”

One question, databox, do you like to read?

Another question, DataBox, do you like to sleep?
