Official Vanderbilt 2015 Fall Transfer Thread

@Jameson5 I feel like your work experience will help alot. Not sure exactly how much Vandy minds community college applicants, as they do seem to have expressed a preference for students from 4-years. Honestly I’d say you are a toss-up, as long as they’re reasonable I’d lean towards an admit

@jameson5 I really think your obvious drive will get you a long way. Please do not take this the wrong way, but most people do not try to go back to college after their mid-20s, so that proves how driven and determined you are. You clearly are excited to even have the opportunity to attend Vanderbilt, and if you portrayed that in your essays, they would be crazy to turn you down. I truly believe that your passion should overshadow community-college attendance. Again, I wish you luck!

@screenjunkie‌ agreed! However. I see the community college applicant as someone who has been educated by multiple institutions. For example, I attend a pretty large community college in Birmingham, AL. All of my professors are adjunct professors that teach at Samford, the University of Alabama, the University of Montevallo, and the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I have been educated with the same books and materials as the students at these other institutions, and have excelled. I think this is the very reason that I would do famously at Vanderbilt. I hope that the admissions staff recognize this and see that I am a worthy candidate. I work hard and I don’t give up, so I guess only time will tell. I very much appreciate your honesty and I share your school of thought.

For those who got accepted, did the counselor assigned to you guys ever changed? I still have the one from Mass assigned on my account?

Kinda random question here but should we expect another round of acceptances before next Monday?

Thank you @emflatt‌! Just like yourself, I have worked very hard. We have all worked very hard in order to be able to apply to Vanderbilt! I am not offended by your comment in the least, quite the contrary actually! I’m flattered! I agree with you, most people don’t go back. One thing that I made very clear in my essay is that through my professional experiences and personal growth, I know the true value of an education. I have a deep understanding that things only come to those who work hard to attain them. My desire is to become an educator myself, so I think that this train of thought is important to instill in our youth. Honestly, the only reason that I went to a community college is because I got married and now have a step-son, who is a teenager. He wants to pursue marine biology, so I was trying to save college money where I could for his education, which will inevitably be out-of-state. I have since become the recipient of a full academic scholarship because of my grades. But if sacrificing for him is what keeps me from being able to get into Vanderbilt, then so be it. You know? I made the right choice in supporting him. But have no doubt, I want Vanderbilt really bad!

@Jameson5 thanks a lot, I appreciate it. For one, William and Mary doesn’t have a strong enough psychology program, but another major factor is the fact that the social scene is pretty lackluster, if you aren’t in a frat and you are a guy, there is next to nothing to do on the weekends and it is frustrating.

I understand @WMstudent18‌, I am not interested in that scene either. It sounds like you have made this choice with a sound mind! I think this board is great for transfers, because those of us that end up at Vanderbilt will already have folks we get along with! Sounds like many of us have common interests. For those of you that are comfortable saying, where is everyone from? I am originally from Atlanta, but moved to Birmingham, AL 3 years ago.

I was accepted, but yeah I think using this board as a way to get to know some other possible accepted transfers is a great idea! Vanderbilt is really helpful with transfer students anyway, but it can’t hurt to know a few people going in. I’m from Ohio, but I’ve lived in NYC for the past year while I go to school. I hope everyone finds out soon, and if not Vanderbilt, hopefully another great school accepts you all! Also, I’m not really sure about the way they’re sending out decisions. I finished my application in December and found out Monday about my decision, but it seems a lot of people who finished that early haven’t received information yet.

@Kelc422 lol I certainly did not finish that early, I submitted on 3/12 I think.

@Jameson5 I’m from Maryland/DC, and have been attending college in NJ this past year. Vandy is actually one of only 2 schools I applied to, as I’m perfectly fine with my current university–after visiting a friend at VU, i just had such a great experience that I think transferring is definitely worth it.

Couldn’t resist: @screenjunkie, not to be very creepy or anything, but I know you, don’t I?

If I’m wrong I’m sorry for the extreme awkwardness I must have just caused.
Also sorry that was pretty off-topic: I am applying for sophomore standing to Vanderbilt, and have not yet heard anything.

Have any Peabody students heard anything?

Any engineering students hear anything? I’m checking my email at 5pm every day now… -_-

@orangebanana Nothin, I applied for CS and submitted everything late Jan. What about you?

To those of you who haven’t heard anything, as far as I can tell, admissions decisions will be released weekly now. (The rolling thing). They look at everyone who got their application in before the priority deadline first, then the people who got in after the deadline on a first come/first serve basis. I wouldn’t be expecting any more decisions until next Monday.

@LostAndAnnoyed‌
Yep, me too.

I have been looking on the thread from last year and they only came out once a week (from what I can tell) but they were sent on Fridays and ours started on Monday so who knows what’s going on. All I know is my anxiety builds every day around 5. Oh look, I’m right on schedule! :stuck_out_tongue:

Literally have been refreshing my email every few hours. Lol.

@ilikewatermelon You have more self control than I do. I have been checking a few times every hour. This is just the school I have wanted to attend since 6th grade. It is literally my dream and I am so anxious to get my decision.

at this point I’m assuming its every Monday. nothing left to do but be as patient as possible haha
