Hey so if I were to be applying for the fall to be a sophomore and I had a 3.1 in high school. 21 on ACT’s. From Massachusetts. No AP classes, and a just a few honors. A few extracurricular activities. I went to a public high school. Did not start caring about academics until this year. I am currently going into my second semester at a college and I currently have a 3.668 GPA with hopes of bringing it up this second semester.

A little background on the college I’m at:
Average 3.5 GPA for acceptance (Says on website they have students that vary from 3.0-3.8), 56% acceptance rate, and the following average test scores:

SAT Test Scores *
Critical Reading: 490-590
Math: 490-580
Writing: 500-600
ACT Composite Scores *
21-26

Is it too early to apply for my sophomore year? Like do I have a chance at all? Or should I probably wait another year?

giraffesarecool, if I’m being honest, I would say keep up the great college academic work and apply for a junior year transfer. The strength of your college success should outweigh the weaknesses of your hs transcript. That is, if you can stand your current college, which isn’t the case for me.

Thank you, I really appreciate your answer. I’m going to apply for Vanderbilt as a reach because like you I don’t think I can stay at my school for another year haha.

Any of you willing to read my essay and provide feedback? :)

I pushed “send” and got a teacher recc. Now the painful wait begins.

anon: happy to help you out, can pm it to me or could email if you prefer that

I REALLY need to get someone to read my essay.

@Beachlover, I will read over yours. You can pm me.

Thank you so much!

beachlover15 - happy to help out as well! Care to give mine a quick read?

Not a problem! Totally.

On an encouraging note, in about 3 months we will be (possibly) getting our decisions mailed!!

Yolocholo: I will be PMing you shortly!

Transfer from flagship state university

GPA: 3.73
Major: Economics + Political Science
Year: Enter as a junior transfer
Reason for transfer: Vanderbilt has the political theory concentration I desire while my current institution does not. Smaller classes sizes at Vanderbilt, which is preferable for my economics major. Nashville is a great city for networking, plus I dig the southern scene.

-blah blah blah, colleges care little about high school at this point.

Hope I am competitive enough to gain admission to the university. it bums me that there is not a supplemental essay for Vanderbilt to further show off my writing skill and enthusiasm for the school, so I have to make my money on the main essay.

I think you have a great chance! You’re super involved at your current school and your LOR might be pretty great.

About to trek out in the snow to drop all of these LOR/Official’s Report off…oh the sacrifice. (haha, kidding)

How are everyone’s applications coming along?

Had a few kind people on here read my essay, so I might send the app in within the next week. Plus, I have to drop off a LOR today.

Four Questions:
~Is LOR the same as the Instructor Evaluation?
~We need two of them, correct?
~How does the process work? Do they mail it for me after they fill out the sheet I give to them, or do I pick it up from them after they complete it and mail it myself?
~If I am applying to more than one school, do the profs just fill it out once and make copies that can be sent to all the schools?

Thanks in advance. I know these might be dumb questions, but I just want to be prepared because I am going to send some emails tonight to ask two of my professors from last quarter if they would be willing to do the evaluations for me.

Yes

Yes

I dropped mine off and said I would pick it up and do whatever I needed to with it

That’s what I plan on doing.

I could be totally wrong, but I thought we weren’t allowed to see the completed form once it was filled out? I had always heard that we need to give the instructors a press dressed envelope so I always assumed it would just go straight to the admissions office after they were done writing it. It even says on the evaluation to have them directly mail the form and to keep the evaluation candid. I could be reading too much into this but I always assumed we were never allowed to read them
