Official Vanderbilt University Fall 2013 Transfer Thread

also really afraid about extracurriculars have few sense it is my first semester in college

~Test scores and high school record are weighed more if you are a freshman applying for sophomore admissions as opposed to a sophomore applying for junior admissions. With that said, college coursework still holds the most weight.
~As for difficulty of admissions based on which program and college you are applying to, that all depends on the university. For some universities, you do not even choose a major until after you are accepted, but others may look to see your chosen major and keep it in mind when deciding whether or not to admit you (usually this only matters if you are applying for a really popular major at a certain school that already has too many students in that program).
~Extracurriculars will be looked at, but don’t forget that this includes both high school and college activities. Also, from what I have heard, GPA and essays are usually the two most important factors in regards to admissions.

Just scanned through Vanderbilt’s Class of 2017 ED forum… Seriously… I’m almost in tears with the realization that I have never matched up to those stats and how my chances are dwindling down each day

Well those are for first year students, not sophomores and juniors. But if it makes you feel any better, the longer I take to send in my app, the less confident I am that I’ll get in.

I submitted my app last week. I read over it about 300 times, so I figured submitting it would be the best option to get it off my chest. Besides, sometimes the longer you wait, the more likely you are to over-think things and make unnecessary changes.

You’re right. I need to send it in this week. :(

I felt the same way Shawshank. My essays are good, but not great, and I was afraid to overthink them. They’re honest, at least. My recommendations WILL be great. The more time passes, the more I want to be accepted. I never thought I’d be in this position again, I mean applying to college. It blows.

I feel like my app as a whole is somewhat mediocre for Vanderbilt :(

anyone upload anything in the additional info section?

Oh no. Those essays were more than enough work for me.

Is anyone applying to more than just Vanderbilt? I am applying to four schools total, possibly five. Part of me feels that the more schools I apply to, the more likely at least one will accept me. I would be thrilled to gain acceptance into any one of them. But these application fees are ridiculously expensive…

I am applying to a few schools and I may add a few more, but Vandy is no. 1 for me. I think it would be foolish for me to only apply to Vanderbilt, though, because I will not, under any circumstances return to my current U.

I CANNOT stay here but my parents don’t seem to get that.

I’m applying to 11…feel like I’ve got good stats and from what I gather getting into top 20ish schools becomes a crap shoot at a certain point. Got 2 safeties then figure may as well reach as you never know with this stuff given the low admit rates.

Vandy is my number one choice - hands down. Doing absolutely everything I can in order to maximize my options here. I really don’t think I’ll get in though.

I want to know about getting a fee wavier for vandy . Has anyone got one ? You think if i ask my counselor from my school to type up a quick letter saying it would pose a hardship to me to pay the fees given my current financial state. it would work !!

Hey everyone,

I am currently a Junior at Wake Forest University. Does anyone know if Vandy accepts Senior transfers?

Brighton93, I got one. I just talked to my admissions counselor about it. He said that once I applied, to contact them, and they’d issue me one, but he did it for me during the process. It was pretty easy. I just have to send in my FAFSA (of course). It should be easy and fine for you!

NinDeac, I don’t think they’ll decline your acceptance simply because you’re a senior…I think the only stipulation is that you must take classes there for at least 2 years (4 semesters) in order to receive a degree from Vandy. I hope that makes sense!

Admissions counselor basically said to retake the ACT…ouch. The next test date is in Mid-April, aka around the time they mail out decisions. I’m SOL.

Feeling quite discouraged today…

Don’t even worry about it. Seriously.

I think we should all create a FB group!
