Congrats Flowers1
Ignore that guy who was putting you down. This just proves that acceptance isn’t based solely on test scores.

Congrats Flowers! Brave Ulysses certainly wasn’t putting you down; rather, they were just a bit surprised given the strength of the EA applicant pool. In context, then, your achievement is very impressive and you should be very proud!

In this thread are 6 deferred this year with SAT scores of 2190,2200,2310,1960 and ACT scores of 33 & 30.

Test scores are not a “minor fraction” of the application according to Villanova admissions.
Villanova has defined Rigor of secondary school record, Class rank ,Academic GPA & Standardized test scores as “Very Important” on their Common Data Set in Relative importance of each of the academic and nonacademic factors in freshman admission decisions.
It also lists Interview as “Not Considered” in the Common Data Set.

Flowers1 EA admit is surprising in the context of competition of the EA applicant pool considering sub 600 test scores in CR / Math. Just look at the SAT averages and 25th percentiles in past CDS.
My guess would have been an RD admit based on GPA and extra curriculars.Flowers1 is clearly qualified to be a successful student at Villanova.

Flowers1 application had an advantage over almost every one of 15,000 who will apply this year in having a personal interview with the director of admissions , even when Villanova Admissions states that interviews are not considered.

Many applicants are admitted EA via advantageous situations such as athletes , legacies , friends of large donors etc.

Congratulations , be the best student you can be and enjoy every day on campus , the 4 years goes by quick.

Actually, the first part of that sentence isn’t true. Together with GPA, SAT scores form the “academic index” (AI) and are absolutely predictive of whether an applicant will be admitted to a particular college. This is just one source; there are many others corroborating that most college adcoms use some form of AI:
[The Academic Index - Ivy League Admissions Key? - College Confidential](http://www.collegeconfidential.com/academic_index.htm)

Furthermore, studies indicate that college acceptance or rejection could be determined in 80% of all applicants simply by knowing that applicant’s AI. A person’s AI also is predictive of how well the student will perform in college. Students with AI’s at or above the school’s median generally have better outcomes (grades, completion of desired major, satisfaction, graduation, etc.) than students below the median.

That being said, GPA is the other component of AI, and flowers1’s 4.4 is above Villanova’s median. It’s great to see someone get accepted EA when Villanova is their 1st choice. Congratulations flowers1 and good luck next year!~

If you take into consideration everything an application illustrates about an individual…GPA, class rank, test scores, extracurriculars, ethnicity, legacy, ESSAYS, recommendations, senior course load, leadership, work experience, etc. etc., I am sticking to my stance that SAT scores are a minor fraction. Yes they are a huge indicator and reliable predictor, but still, a small portion of the big picture.

Villanova is my top choice but now I’m not sure whether I should rethink it or not

kristy428 ~ my daughter felt the same way as you after being deferred with very good stats. VU was in her top 2 choices and though she is now exploring other options, she’s also supplementing her VU application with an additional recommendation, EC activity update and a letter to our area’s adcom representative re-affirming her interest. JMO but white NJ females are over-represented in many schools’ applicant pools, resulting in more competition for admission. You seem like a strong applicant so if you still like Villanova, please don’t give up!

More on the importance of SAT scores, along with encouragement for deferred Early applicants.

Interesting article. I am tired of the whole thing. I was so glad when my daughter finished her last application, but now we are working on all of the financial stuff and it’s almost as bad. I keep checking everything to make sure we did not forget anything and I’m on pins and needles waiting for our W2s and other documents to file that IDOC.

I guess I’m getting off topic, but its hard to compare apples to apples until you know EXACTLY what you will have to pay for any given school, and have all of your acceptances in hand.

My sentiments exactly!
