@txhandan Thank you

I also received a likely! Congrats to everyone and I wish you all the best in the remainder of your college decision process. Are we allowed to join the fb group?

@orchidfields I’m wondering that too! I think I’ll press join… :p

LIKELY!! hehe i think we can join the fb group

Congratulations to all those who are likely. For those who are possible, please remember that in most cases the possibles turn in to admission come end of March, good luck, hang in there.
I am posting on behalf of my daughter, she is a likely. She is very happy. Wellesley was her dream school. This was the only school where we both agreed as the top choice. We are all very happy. Good Luck to all of you.

I wrote my Common App essay on why I like taking AP exams (nerdy, I know), and my Wellesley supplement was about how I hope Wellesley can bring more tradition and a strong sense of community into my life (and I added a whole bunch of details about what parts of the Wellesley experience would help me accomplish this).
[]Teacher Recommendations: I didn’t read them, but they were from two teachers who really liked me; one rec probably explained how I stood out in class as almost the sole contributor, and the other probably showed how I overcame my struggle to do well and ended up being a dedicated learner and a leader in class.

Reflection
- []Strengths: Test scores, GPA, essays/supplement, leadership roles, uniqueness of being a female trumpet player
[]Weaknesses: “Unoriginal” ECs, lack of APs (my school doesn’t offer many prior to senior year), lack of awards, no hooks
[]Why you think you received a likely/possible/unlikely prediction: I think my academics definitely played a major role. When I received a note from a Harvard admissions officer about what she liked about my application, she cited the uniqueness and passion inherent in my Common App essay, so that probably helped me at Wellesley, too.
[]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: Accepted to Harvard early
General comments/advice/hindsight: I’M SO EXCITED!!! Getting into Wellesley has been all I could think about for the past few months, so this has certainly brightened up my day! I was worried because a some of the academically strong students at my school who were accepted to top-10 colleges in the past few years were rejected from Wellesley, but luckily I’m not in the same boat as them! Now I just have to decide between Harvard and Wellesley, my two dream schools… Oh boy… :-SS

[]Strengths: i guess my essay. i wrote about how hard high school was, why i had no ECs, and how i’ve really changed and matured and am hopeful for the future. it sounds way better than what i just described haha, writing is my strong point.
[]Weaknesses: lack of ECs, APs (my school’s selection is very limited anyway). very lackluster app…which is why i can’t believe this!!
[]Why you think you received a likely/possible/unlikely prediction: i don’t know…i’m still ecstatic. i didn’t expect this at all, and i can’t comprehend it…it really validates the last six months and gives me something to make it through these last few months. i can’t be sure, but i just really appreciate them seeing something in me and liking it enough to want me.
[]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: applied to barnard, smith, mt holyoke, yale, rhodes, occidental, rice…also, originally deferred in tulane EA, but i pulled my app.

AHHHHHH

ALSO i wanted to add something: i want future applicants to not be afraid or embarrassed to apply to a school you think you have no chance in hell at; just tell your story honestly and just be you in your app, and you never know what might happen! scores are not everything; a perfect ACT doesn’t make you a shoo-in. take a chance! the worst thing that could happen is rejection.

Reflection

[]Strengths: ACT score, ECs, recs
[]Weaknesses: GPA isn’t that high, my essays possibly
[]Why you think you received a likely/possible/unlikely prediction: I think that I “fit” really well into the typical Wellesley student mold. Extremely dedicated, anal retentive to a certain degree (LOL), and I showed a lot of interest in the school. I think both my recs (in which I was able to get teachers to talk about both my leadership/ECs and dedication to school work) and my strong leadership positions in my ECs were what really helped me. I am so happy to say that all of the hard work I have put in the last 4 years, all of the late-nights, dedication to my clubs, and bugging people like crazy to get things done has ALL been worth it.
[]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: I have been accepted into all of my Canadian schools! I applied to some other LACs in the States, one Ivy, and one Top 20 - but it doesn’t really matter now!
[/ul]

General comments/advice/hindsight: Honestly, be true to yourself. Speak from your heart in your essays, and don’t be afraid - even if it sounds ‘dumb’. And don’t do things because it pumps up your resume - I think something that helped me a lot was to get teacher recs from people who have been my teacher advisors for the clubs I am involved in. CONGRATS TO EVERYONE ELSE WHO GOT LIKELY!! And to people who got Possibles, hang in there! You never know what might happen come March!

[]Job/Work Experience: Worked as a sales associate grades 10, 11. Internship at local theatre company 11, 12.
[]Volunteer/Community Service: 300+ hours at local hospital (was student volunteer for one year and manager of student volunteers for 2). (I have more but that’s all I put on the Common App!)
[]Summer Activities: Summer before senior year i participated in a VERY selective research internship program (4% acceptance rate, was one of only five high schoolers, submitted my abstract to all my schools, wrote my CA essay about it, blah blah blah.) Summer before junior year I worked in that sales associate position and volunteered at the hospital, summers before sophomore and freshman year the only thing of note was the hospital.
[]Essays: I put a ton of time into my Common App essay, loved it. I also really loved my Wellesley supplement (wrote about my love for neuroscience and sprinkled in some references to other aspects of the Wellesley life that appeal to me) but I DID have a typo–“alumna” instead of “alumnae”
[]Teacher Recommendations: One from my AP Lit teacher was phenomenal, 11/10, one from AP Stats teacher was…good but very sparse? 6/10? So I requested a third from an APUSH teacher which was like a 7 or 8 out of 10.

[]Strengths: Essays (typo and all!!), ECs, subject tests maybe, I did “demonstrate interest” by interviewing on-campus, that one letter of recommendation…who knows.
[]Weaknesses: Freshman year GPA was a 3.5, CollegeConfidential has led me to believe that my SATs are a weakness, I am completely unhooked and wildly insecure
[]Why you think you received a likely/possible/unlikely prediction: NO idea. I was expecting a “possible.”
[]Where else you have applied and/or have been accepted/rejected: 14 other schools, didn’t apply anywhere early or rolling…haven’t heard back from ANYWHERE else (I didn’t apply to my state school. Risky decision, but I guess it worked out.)
[/ul]

General comments/advice/hindsight: I could not be any happier right now. I spent the last few months beating myself up for not applying to a lot of “safeties” or “matches” and regretted not re-taking the SAT with all my heart. Wellesley was definitely at the top of my list anyway, so I can’t believe that this could become a reality. My advice to future applicants is to pull yourself away from collegeconfidential and evaluate yourself as a person. Don’t play the comparison game, it never ends well. Just focus on being your best self, putting your best foot forward, and following your passions.

General comments/advice/hindsight:

I wanted to share this because before when I would look on College Confidential and see everyone’s immaculate scores and extracurriculars, I had no faith in myself whatsoever. It goes to show that it doesn’t matter if you don’t have the perfect score or perfect credentials, there is still a chance you can get in! I mean look at me . . . I have a 540 in math for the SAT! Look to yourself. Don’t focus on others. Also take a chance like I did when applying to schools! Even if you think you’ll be rejected.

There must be a higher force somewhere because I was not expecting this!

LIKELY! OMG I was soooo excited to find out!
