    ] Job/Work Experience: AdmitSee intern
[] Volunteer/Community service: My tutoring program, church orchestra.
    [
] Summer Activities: Writing, swimming, violin.
[] Essays: Common App (7/10), I talked about how my height affected swimming but the essay was pretty messy, Supplement (7/10), I talked about the WZLY radio and the seminars.
    [
] Teacher Recommendation: I got them from my 11th grade English teacher and my 11th-12th grade physics teacher. I really don’t know how they were, since they might have written my letter in flowery language, but I talk very little in class but do well on projects/essays. Also, my English teacher seemed very bent on writing down my extracurriculars and accomplishments (when I asked for a rec, he asked a lot about them) rather than my interests.
[] Counselor Rec: No idea. My counselor does require that we answer some questions and fill out a resumé, and I’ve talked to her from time to time (she seems to like my jokes? lol).

Reflection

  • [] Strengths: Kind of awards, grades, test scores, and EC commitment. Maybe my essays/recs, but they were really hit or miss.
    [
] Weaknesses: Lack of leadership in ECs
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: Who ever will understand the whims of the admissions office
    [
] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Deferred Princeton SCEA, accepted Pitt and UF

**General Comments: ** Congrats to the likelies! To the possibles and unlikelies, know that whatever an admissions office “evaluates” of you has no bearing on who you are as a person! You are all fantastic women, and I wish you the best of luck in life.

Reflection

  • [] Strengths: I guess I have an interesting life story. I mean with all of the the things that happened, I shouldn’t not be here today filling out a college application or writing to you about having filled one out here on CC. My essays were great and I told my story. The fact that it didn’t garner an acceptance doesn’t make my story less significant and it doesn’t make me weaker. The same goes for anyone who didn’t receive a likely: Wellesley is not the end all be all, it’s the means to an end. If a rejection detracts you from your goals, reevaluate your priorities.
    [
] Weaknesses: GPA, SAT for sure
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: low GPA and SAT for sure. I mean no top college is truly holistic. If they were, perhaps you wouldn’t see such high SATs or GPAs and you’d see more of the outliers. It doesn’t matter how much you’ve gone through or how much everyone believes in you in your community, if your SAT and GPA aren’t at a certain cut, you’re not going to get in.
    [
] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: maybe a lack of ECs, while it was out of my control, it doesn’t mean that they don’t prefer someone who is more involved with their school.

**General Comments: ** lol now I kind of have a taste of how late March is going to be, as I have applied to many reach schools. Rejections are coming my way. I mean there are really two ways to look at this. I can either mope about it (surprisingly I haven’t show emotion) or I can move and realize that a rejection doesn’t mean the poverty cycle continues or whatever. But this sets the stage for tops schools lol

    [
] Summer Activities: Odd things here and there like volunteering or little leadership summits

    [] Counselor Rec: 9/10
    [
] Additional Rec: I never read it
[] Interview: I had this whole complicated thing where I requested an interview back in October and the communication from the alumnae was weird and confusing and at the end nonexistent. Wellesley itself was amazing during the process and went out of their way to help me schedule an interview (and they did it really quickly), but for some reason the alumnae I was trying to schedule the interviews with just weren’t great. In the end I gave up and ended up without one.

Reflection

  • [] Strengths: SAT I and SAT II Spanish scores, performing arts high school background

[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: My acting background is unique and I want to major in linguistics, which is relatively rare!
    [
] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to UMass Amherst Honors College and Hampshire. Still waiting for Swarthmore, Haverford, URochester, Yale, and Brown.

**General Comments: **
So incredibly honored to have been accepted. I’m unsure what my top choice is for now, so I’m waiting on the rest of my decisions to see!
Advice to future applicants: Make your essays about what YOU want to say, not the thing you think will be most impressive or fit your narrative the best. I had an essay about theater for a long time and it just wasn’t working, but I refused to change it for a while because I felt I needed to try to play up the theater ‘hook’ in any way I could. When I finally changed it to be about languages, my true passion and what I want to pursue in college, I felt so much happier about my writing. Have confidence that the thing that makes you feel the most like ‘you’ will be what the admissions officers will most want to read!

Subjective:

  • [] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): Rugby for four years and I’m sort of a captain now, VP of Italian Honor Society, I used to translate songs from French to English and vice versa online, I took an online Italian course that Wellesley offered last summer… I think those are the big ones, I think I had some other language related ones though and Linguistics was one of my intended majors
    [
] Job/Work Experience: A summer job at Six Flags for one summer
[] Volunteer/Community service: I helped with fundraisers to raise money for my class and I’ve volunteered at elementary schools in the area
    [
    ] Summer Activities: none
[] Essays: My common app essay was honestly so good like 9.5/10. I wrote about being a rugby player and how I never planned to be one but it’s literally changed my life for the better. It really showed my voice and I’ve been told that I’m a pretty good writer. My Wellesley essay was pretty good, like 8/10. I wrote about sisterhood and how going to a women’s college would be the best thing to ever happen to me and Mayrah Udvardi who is basically the biggest Wellesley Wendy ever and how I totally aspire to be just like her
    [
] Teacher Recommendation: My rugby coach and AP Lang teacher wrote me an amazing essay, I didn’t get the chance to see it but she knows me very well and we’re close. My AP World History teacher wrote my second one and we’re not very close but we have similar music tastes and have talked about it before. I think his letter was probably okay. Never saw it though.
[] Counselor Rec: Never saw it. Might have been generic because my school is huge but I had to fill out a questionnaire so maybe that helped
    [
    ] Additional Rec: N/A
[] Interview: I didn’t do one BUT Danielle Wells (an associate admissions director) came to my school and I got to talk to her one on one so maybe that factored in? I was really shy during that meeting but I was def enthusiastic about the school. And I was the only one who signed up to talk to her so.

    [
] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): URM, also I put compsci as my intended major and there aren’t many black chicks in their compsci program so maybe? The admissions director said major doesn’t factor in but you never know

Reflection

  • [] Strengths: My SAT score is okay and my passion for language definitely showed in my application. I think that made me unique. My CommonApp essay showed a lot of personality, like I said, and I think it was a huge factor. I’ve also taken 8 APs and all of my other classes have been honors because I’m in a special program at my school.
    [
] Weaknesses: My GPA def sucks compared to most of you guys and I don’t have many extracurriculars or big awards.
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: PASSION!!! I’ve visited, I’ve talked to current students, I’ve emailed the admissions counselors, I got a book award, I took their online summer class and in my essay I made sure they knew how bad I wanted it, I did everything I could to make them know that I want to go to Wellesley and that I wouldn’t waste the chance if I got in and I guess it paid off. Honestly, I keep refreshing my evaluation to make sure it doesn’t change or anything. At best I was expecting a possible so I’m so surprised but excited about a likely.
    [
] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: Accepted to UMD, Fordham, and Pace but those were all safeties. Still waiting on Barnard, Smith and NYU.

**General Comments: ** I just wanted to post this so people know that GPA isn’t everything. If you’re extremely passionate and can show it, I think it makes a big difference!! To all the possibles, good luck and I hope to see you on campus this fal!!

[] Volunteer/Community service: the leadership opportunities at church mentioned above, as well as summer activities listed below (around 500 service hours)
    [
] Summer Activities: I’ve been going to the same summer camp every year in middle school and high school. This was so impactful that the past two years I have been a volunteer there.
[] Essays: Common App - 9/10, I wrote about my summer camp, and how it’s more than just a fun place, its impact on me, and the challenges I faced as a counselor. Wellesley supplement: 9/10, the only point off on these essays were probably that I didn’t connect the two paragraphs, which is something i’ve seen people doing on these forums. I wrote about the honor code (I have an honor code sticker on my Nalgene!) and the Women who Make You Want To Be a Scientist video.
    [
] Teacher Recommendation: 10/10 for both (AP Lit and AP Calc BC teachers)
[] Counselor Rec: 10/10, she loves me!
for the prospective students reading through these, one great benefit is getting to KNOW YOUR GUIDANCE COUNSELORS AND TEACHERS!!! My counselor has over 300 students, but by getting to know her and spending more time with her, she was really able to write a powerful rec for me, which especially helps when adcoms see you come from a huge school. Plus, the staff is usually super cool and funny when you get to know them as people! Talk in class! Participate!
