although retaking a 2370 signifies a great deal of confidence, i don’t think that makes him/her a shoe-in candidate. there was a cc applicant last year (he had a religiously inspired username, i think), who had similarly impressive standardized testing, and was similarly unsatisfied and retook already very high scores. iirc, he was admitted somewhere nice, but Yale rejected him. i think he admitted at one point that his perfectionism may have actually detracted from his application.

^ You’re talking about Christiansoldier. He retook a 790 on the Chemistry SAT II.

^Yes, but he’s at Princeton now, so it’s not like “perfectionism” did him in.

No one is saying that Silverturtle and Jersey13 are guaranteed admits, but they do have amazing chances.

And wow. 60 pledgers. You all better come back and report your decision whether or not you get in!! I’ll still do the statistical analysis that Descartesz did last year regardless of my decision. =P

^^ It didn’t necessarily ruin all of his chances, but I can see why being that much of a perfectionist can look bad to adcoms. It implies that one sees test-taking as an EC and has nothing better to do than to spend money and half of a Saturday to gain a few points on a test.

I can understand retaking a 790- if you still remember the material, if you have a free saturday morning, why not? I mean, it probably was just one or two questions off. I’m just saying it may be right for some people. I guess it could be worth it if you ended up with an 800.
