Oh! Chem AAA midterm

The boron was sp hybridized so two hydrogens sigma bonded with the sp orbitals in a linear geometry. There are two P orbitals left, and assuming (without a loss of generality) that the Px orbital was used for the hybrid, the other two P orbitals are sticking up in the plane of the paper and directly out of the plane of the paper. One of those will be empty; the other will bond with the remaining hydrogen. But you didn’t have to draw any empty orbitals, so it should just look like | where the three ends have H’s and the middle is boron. That’s what I thought anyway.

aaahh that makes sense…i just drew a trigonal planar BH3
btw…was the last arrow pushing mechanism a reaction or resonance? (it was the one with carbons and hydrogens)

wow the more we talk about this… the more scared i get.

do you think we are getting this back tomorrow?

yeah…he said so in lab lecture today

i know he said the avg was 110. also, in class he never mentioned what the standard deviation and highest score was?

so howd you do?

i heard he said that the standard deviation was 29?

i got 120/150. worse than i thought. i really hated that page where we had to pick resonance or product. i could have gotten 18/24 instead of 12/24.

this std dev is crazy…an A would mean getting a 139+
thats stupid

an A is 92%? it was like 80% for frechet’s first midterm lol

yea this is so dumb i cant even believe

yeah i hope that standard deviation is wrong.

does anybody know where the answers are posted?

i asked him for the std dev. he told me that number himself
i still cant believe how messed up this curve is

yeah hrhcow, i got the same as you did on the resonance/product page…i hated that one. also, on that one for the first one i incorrectly circled resonance instead of product and the gsi subtracted three…w t f? i mean for the other ones i missed they gave me 0-this is a mistake on the gsi’s part right? cause then i could get a 15/24 on that one instead…

BAD standard deviation…GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Uhhh for the person who said why the cut off for Frechet’s midterm was 80% for an A…well you have to realize our averages were like a ~70-80 out of 160. You can’t really expect the same cut off when the average is much higher.

@calbear: are you talking to me? i didn’t ask why…

^^lol

137

i’m gonna miss chem :(

can’t say i agree with you…loved frechet, liked chem, messed up the exams big time. im glad that stress is over. my memory just isn’t what it needs to be :(
