If your EC says they won't interview you, you should call the Educational Council office and try to find another EC. If there are no others in your area, either drive farther or make sure MIT knows that your lack of interview wasn't your fault. ;)

If you go to MyMIT, and then "online application tracking", you should be able to scroll down and find your "educational consultant" (that's the interviewer or the person in your town who arranges the interviews), including a phone number. You could try to call today. Even if you don't reach them, you will at least have tried to arrange an interview. If you do reach them, first week in January is a pretty slow time for many people at work. They may be able to schedule you pretty quickly.

Knowing my early app results (deferred), I would have not had that interview. It was the worst experience on earth. My interviewer was a real **, and did whatever he could to belittle me. Sample question: "MIT spends <six figure=""> dollars per student per year, yet we only get 1/3 of that from tuition. Why would MIT want to spend that money on you?" And that's not the worst of it. After the interview, you feel like beating yourself with a shovel "Why didn't I do THAT in high school?". Still, an interview *helps</six>, and if you think you'll get in, do one, and be prepared for an interview from heck.

Wow, that's really unfortunate. :( I'm sorry to hear about your interview experience.

I live in the boonies and drove about four hours to a neighboring state to have my interview. The EC was an older fellow of few words who was respectful and genuinely caring about the process. I wonder if MIT will let you have a second interview if the first one was truly awful.

yeah you should have asked for a second one, though it's probably too late now :(
i really liked my interviewer; we spent like 45min just talking about linux!

wow that is unfortunate. my interviewer was awesome and we keep in contact. We talked for about an hour and a half about everything and we both seemed to have a lot to say. I thought it was fun. We just kind of hit it off and i think the interview really helped my app.

when i go to online app and tracking...and scroll down to "interview" this is all it says:

Interview | Not Processed | Your EC Assignment is Pending

So uhh..what does that mean? and uhh what should I do? =(

Once they process your application (more likely in the coming 2 days or so) they will assign you an EC.

But it is different here.

Interview: Waived

Will they hold it against me if there are no available interviewers in my area? I don't mind interviews at all. In fact, I'm willing to do one as soon as possible.. and er, I can drive farther if they wish as long as I stay inside the boundaries of this country. :P

no I read madmatt's blog thingy and he said if its waived/youtriedtogetone they dont hold it against you at all, and still look upon you positively for trying

If it's waived, you can still call and request an interview. They waive your interview if an EC is not located within an hour's drive of you. If you really want to travel farther, call the EC office and they'll give you details of an EC in your state or country. When you have the interview, give the EC your full name, address, and phone number. They'll send their interview report to MIT and your application will become associated with that EC.

(I had to do this as no EC was in my area.)

You can also email interview@mit.edu if you can't call them.

so you have to wait until they send you confirmation on reception, right?

I was assigned an EC in another country, bah

should i call my EC and ask? I already called MIT, saying I didn't know about interviews, and they said they would still accept an interview form if I had one soon. What is the worst that can happen? lol
