OH GOD I scored 40 points below the 1960 cut off

So here is the deal, I wasn’t sure if I was going to be a semifinalist (I was right on the edge for where cutoffs in my state usually lie) and had no intention of applying for an institution that required the sat, so consequently I chose not to scrounge up $50 to take the sat until I was sure it was actually necessary. So, when I did get confirmation I immediately went to sign up, but the only test offered withing 75 miles of me was the November test. I have a 33 act and score high on all my standardized tests and did plenty of reading on the structure, style, and material for the sat so I figured I could make the cut just fine. And then I didn’t. So now the question is, is all hope lost? I mean, I got a solid 4.0, boatloads of ap and college classes, fantastic recommendations, a good essay, and plenty of other good odds and ends, so is there any chance AT ALL that they may overlook that rotten 40 point discrepancy given everything else is as it should be?

Is that with the essay score or with the MCx10?

MCx10.

Don’t know… I’m sorry it turned out like this. You could try asking NMSC to confirm that the qualifying score really is 1960.

What is the breakdown of your score?

M
CR
W (multiple choice subscore)

If you’re saying that your score (using the subscore method) is 1920, then I’m sorry but you will not make finalist.

Others reading this thread who might be in this situation in a future year, do not wait until one of the last tests to confirm. There is/was a Dec SAT, but it sounds like it’s too late for that one.

Saving $50 is not worth it when the stakes are high.

Well, that’s a turbo-bummer. Perhaps I could write to them concerning the matter, or is that number wholly absolute and final?

What is the breakdown of your score.

Where did you apply? Some schools offer scholarships to semifinalist and even commended. Hopefully you applied to one of those. or maybe its not too late?

750 cr, 680 m, and 49 w mc. Must have got off a line on the writing.

Nope, sdsmt only offers awards to finalists, unfortunately. I don’t even care if I get money from the nmsc, all I needed was the finalist designation. Pretty humbling, managing to screw up something that by all rights should have been a guarantee.

Hmmm. That’s a new one, its not on the usual list that is posted all over CC (http://nmfscholarships.yolasite.com/). Its not that big a scholarship, 3K for 3 years. You might get one of their other scholarships or you might be able to make up for it with a summer job.

Make absolutely certain that they won’t consider semi-finalists, I wrote to Oklahoma the other day and found out that even though their website doesn’t say it, they consider semifinalists and even commended students for near full rides.

Look to see what Ole Miss offers to those who only make NMSF. If good, shoot them an app.

edit…I just looked…you get a lot for being a NMSF…full tuition and dorm!!

Yes, it looks like you misbubbled.

Curious…why didn’t you sign up for the Dec SAT?

There is a Jan SAT… you could try calling NMCorp and see if they’ll let you use the Jan exam

Well, 2 reasons. For one the late registration date falls 1 day before I got my scores for the November test. Also, the November test was the only one offered in my area, I tried to sign up for the October test but I couldn’t find a test center near me, and the December test also is not offered in my area. I believe my counselor said the closest centers that offer those tests are about 75 miles away.

Well, contact NMCorp and mention the lack of test areas in your area, and the mis-bubble issue. Maybe they will let you take the Jan SAT. Is there a test area in your area for THAT exam? check and see before you call.
