Is Ohio State or University of Maryland College Park better?

Eliminating cost, as they will be nearly identical there, which one is better for a major in a science field?
I've noticed US News and Data ranks Ohio State higher, but Maryland seems more selective and prestigious.

I hope to attend graduate school in the west, does one of them give me an advantage over the other in doing so? Which school is better?

Any help would be great, thanks!

might knowing your likely science major(s) help us to help you decide?

Well, it’s definitely subject to change but I’ve selected biochemistry for both as of now

It’s a tossup. Both are excellent schools. You’ll do fine at either one.

Yeah, biochem isn’t one of those stem majors that is going to make a difference in which school you choose–as far as I know. You’re lucky to have the choice. Biochem is crazy demanding at both schools. You’ll work very hard and be glad you did. Work also to get some research experience and some summer money. One possible advantage of UMD is the opportunity to work at nearby National Institutes of Health, Dept. of Ag, FDA, Carnegie Institute, EPA, and Howard Hughes Medical Institute over the summer and perhaps during the school year. Not to mention the biomed industries in the area. I know of these opportunities because my son goes to UMD. I don’t know if OSU has similar numbers of opportunities. Good luck.

Go where you can succeed… reputations cancel out
