Ohio State University admissions?
Im new here, I am really sorry if this is in the wrong section :/
Anyway, I really wanna go to OSU, but am unsure about my scores. I just didn't worry about college during freshmen year... So anyones opinion would be helpful.
GPA UW: 3.55
GPA W: 4.2 on 5.0 scale
Class rank: top quarter
SAT: 1830- I will retake next month. CR:600 M:590 W: 640

I have all A's and B's, I got one C in 7th grade in honors Algebra one.

I have taken all honors classes since freshman year, never standard level. This year I have taken 4 IB classes (English, History, Math, HL Bio), an internship class with the school nurse, and two college level nursing classes, and Anatomy.
When I graduate, I should have around 30 college credits, and I already have my CNA and EMT (I want to go into premed and nursing.)

I have over 200 hours of community service, and here is a few things Ive done:
25+ Hours walking dogs every weekend
20 Hours Red Cross Blood Drive volunteer
50 Hours volunteer at local hospital
15 hours volunteer at local fire house

I have a lot of family who went to OSU, though I heard that it doesnt matter at all to them. I am not an Ohio resident.

Anyway, I know my GPA isnt the best- and I did a practice SAT and got a 1980 on it, so I am hoping my SAT will go up (I just didn't study math enough.), but do you think my extra stuff would help me get in? Or should I look for a different college?

UPDATE: I also just got accepted into a very select summer camp for rising seniors interested in pre-med. And alos this summer I will be shadowing three physicians and a nurse.

Thanks, lol, I have been working really hard at math and I now have it up to a 650-700, BUT now I feel like my reading is going down But math score is more important to OSU then reading so…

It does, only if you are on the fence!! Based on your credential, I think you have a good chance in terms of getting accepted. The current 50% ACT 26-31 with ave score of 28.5. However, know that since tOSU will begin Comm App on Aug 1st this year (25% more applicants expected), the 50% ACT score for 2012-2013 is expected to be 27-31 (SAT 1820-2040). My advice is to apply EARLY and follow this new article’s advice. As an OOS applicant, it should play to your advantage as tOSU continues to increase its geographic diversity for the future enrollments.

Yes, certainly try to get that SAT score up!! And Yes, all the extra stuff will help you as tOSU takes a holistic approach in reviewing each applicant. Also note that starting this year, a teacher’s recommendation letter is required. Last but not least, NEVER apply only to Ohio State, tOSU is NOT your safety!!

The Ohio State University

As rising high school seniors set out to start completing their college applications later this summer, those hoping to get away with only using the Common Application will have one major new college to consider.

The Ohio State University, a major research university that has up until this coming admissions season only maintained its own institutional application, will start accepting the Common App for applicants to its main, Columbus campus.

The 2012-2013 Common Application will be available online August 1, 2012, and students applying to Ohio State will have to complete both the Common Application and the Ohio State supplemental form. Yet, this is not the only change to Ohio State’s admissions procedures.

The university’s December 1 priority deadline has been eliminated; however, the university still encourages students to apply early in the fall and by the final application deadline of February 1, 2013.

Meanwhile, information collected on the Common Application and Ohio State supplement will inform not only the admissions process, but also Honors & Scholars and Morrill Scholars processes, eliminating the need for separate applications.

Additionally, Ohio State will require students to submit one teacher recommendation with each application.

Ohio residents who want to apply directly to a Regional campus and domestic and international transfer students will continue to apply via the application Ohio State has used for many years.
